The Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle and Patrimony 270th-Anniversary Collection

Select members of Vacheron Constantin’s Traditionnelle and Patrimony families have been invited to join in the 270th-anniversary celebrations. Eight references from both families have been singled out for the special treatment and flaunt dials decorated with a unique motif created for the 270^th anniversary of the brand. As important as the dial, the manufacture calibres are also given distinctive finishings that will set them apart as anniversary pieces.

The Traditionnelle collection pays homage to Geneva’s haute horlogerie traditions. Distinguished by its classic cases with stepped lugs, fluting and a slender bezel, other features of this family are the railway-style minutes track, the faceted gold Dauphine hour and minute hands and the applied gold hour markers. The Patrimony collection is inspired by the ultra-thin round timepieces crafted by Vacheron Constantin in the 1950s. Characterised by an elegant minimalism, Patrimony timepieces share gently domed dials with slender curved hour markers and slim baton hands.

Created especially for the 270^th anniversary, the dials of these watches feature a subtle geometric motif inspired by the Maltese Cross, the brand’s logo since 1880. The refined decoration recalls the dial of a 1955 reference marking the bicentenary of the Maison and creates a subtle play of light and shade. The other distinguishing anniversary signature of these watches is the ‘côte unique’ finishing on the bridges, a feature rediscovered in 2021 while reproducing the Historiques American 1921 watch. Requiring great skill and control, a continuous etched line spans from one bridge to another. Lastly, all the in-house movements are visible through the sapphire crystal caseback and feature an engraved gold Maltese Cross inscribed with 270.

Traditionnelle Manual-Winding

Classic time-only dress watches, the Traditionnelle Manual-Winding anniversary editions come in 38mm cases with a slim profile of 7.77mm. Available in 950 platinum or 18k pink gold, each edition is limited to 370 pieces. With nothing to distract the eye save the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, the silvery dials are traversed by the special anniversary motif with a series of sharply executed lines emanating from a Maltese Cross at 7:30.

Traditionnelle Moon Phase

This feminine timepiece comes in a 36mm pink gold case set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds in the bezel and lugs and an inverted diamond in the crown. The pink mother-of-pearl dial, decorated with the signature anniversary motif, hosts an astronomical moon phase display, requiring a one-day adjustment in 122 years, a power reserve indicator and a small seconds counter.

Traditionnelle Manual-Winding

A dainty and more straightforward time-only feminine timepiece, this Traditionnelle comes in a 33mm pink gold case with 54 brilliant-cut diamonds set in the bezel. Powered by the ultra-slim calibre 1440, the case has a thickness of just 7.7mm. The mother-of-pearl dial is decorated with the signature anniversary motif of crisscrossing lines inspired by the profile of the Maltese Cross. The delicate pink hue of the dial is complemented by the purple railway-style minutes track on the periphery. The applied gold hour markers feature double indices at noon, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.

Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date

A much sought-after complication, the retrograde display has been the technical and aesthetic signature of the Maison since the 18^th century. Displayed in the upper half of the dial with blue numerals and a blued gold openworked arrow-tipped hand, the retrograde date is combined with a precision moon phase indicator. The domed silver-toned dial of the Patrimony is decorated with the signature 270^th-anniversary pattern with a series of lines emanating from a Maltese Cross at 7:30. Presented in 42.5mm white gold or pink gold cases with a height of 9.7mm, the models are equipped with self-winding movements with an openworked gold rotor.

A sober time-and-date model in a 40mm white gold or pink gold case with a slim profile of 8.65mm, these Patrimony models flaunt the dedicated 270^th-anniversary motif on their domed silver-toned dials. With nothing to distract the eye except the discreet date aperture at 6 o’clock, the original pattern of straight intersecting lines can be genuinely appreciated. Long slender hour markers and slim baton hands, crafted in gold, add to the refined personality of the watch. Powered by an automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve, the ‘côte unique’ finishing on the bridges and the gold inscribed Maltese Cross 270 earmark this as a special edition.
