Ressence hit the ground running when Belgian industrial designer Benoît Mintiens unveiled prototypes of the Zero Series, featuring its unique “beyond hands” display at Baselworld 2010. Relying on revolving sub-dials powered by the brand’s patented Orbital Convex System (ROCS), time literally circles the domed dial like planets orbiting the Sun. In 2014, Ressence introduced the crownless Type 1, the brand’s core model, which underwent its latest evolution in 2023 with the Type 1 Round. For Dubai Watch Week, Ressence unveils a particularly attractive 70-piece edition of its classic watch with a warm, rose gold-plated dial. Meet the Type 1 Round RG.
No newcomer to the region, Ressence has produced several special editions for Ahmed Seddiqi, the UAE’s leading watch and jewellery retailer and founder of Dubai Watch Week. In 2019, Ressence presented the Type 1 DXB with an openworked, sand-coloured dial. This was followed by the Type 1 Slim DX2 with Islamic geometric motifs for the UAE’s 50th anniversary in 2021. More recently, Ressence released the Type 1 DX3 with an impressive cloisonné-style dial. Yet another tribute watch, the Type 9 S75, celebrated Ahmed Seddiqi’s 75th anniversary.
Faithful to the brand’s design language, the Type 1 Round has a sleek, streamlined pebble-shaped case with flowing forms. Crafted in titanium, the 42.7mm diameter and compact 11mm thickness of the ergonomic case wear smaller on the wrist than the dimensions would suggest. The sandblasted case middle and wire lugs contrast with the thin polished bezel, while the double-domed sapphire crystal accentuates the flowing lines of the case.
The new rose gold-plated German silver dial displays a sunray finish and exudes a warm coppery tone. In contrast, the three eccentric discs, displaying the hours, seconds and days of the week in the central part of the dial, have silver frames and snailed interiors. Similar to the layout of regular clocks, the minutes are displayed on the peripheral chapter ring. All the engraved indications are filled with Super-LumiNova, and the two dashes on the day of the week counter and the 60-minute marker are green.
Driving the circular movement of the discs is the patented ROCS 1.3 module powered by a customised automatic ETA 2892 base calibre with a frequency of 28,800vph and a 36-hour power reserve.
With no crown to interrupt the smooth, rounded contours of the case, the retractable lever on the caseback is used to wind the movement and adjust the settings.
