The New Peren Regia Lunar Eclipse Dark
A minimal yet futuristic monochromatic diver with a nod to the Transylvanian Sarmizegetusa Regia calendar.

The latest Peren Regia LE Dark follows recent models like the Regia X Automatic 39 Diver, but with a stripped-down aesthetic that’s very monochromatic and a bit futuristic. The diving bezel is sterile save for a white circle at 12 o’clock, and the white dial elements seem to almost float over the depths of the black background. Peren has Transylvanian roots, and prior to this, dials even had a set of vampire fangs for a logo. This latest watch draws inspiration from the Transylvanian Sarmizegetusa Regia calendar, aka the Stonehenge of Transylvania, which precisely measured lunar/solar cycles.
The stainless steel case measures 39mm in diameter and 12.8mm in height (lug-to-lug, 45.3mm) and has a black DLC coating. The case is bead-blasted and hand-polished, and the steel unidirectional (120-click) rotating bezel is completely unmarked other than a white lume circle at 12 o’clock. A flat sapphire crystal with three anti-reflective coatings protects the dial, and the uncoated solid caseback has a nice bead-blasted finish. The tapered crown screws down to ensure the 200m water-resistance, making it a very capable diver despite the unmarked bezel. The watch is fitted with a black FKM rubber strap with a steel pin buckle.
The dial is a contrast of deep black and white with openworked circular indices and larger oval counterparts at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock made from Super-LumiNova BGW9 blocks. White hour and minute hands have matching lume inserts, and the seconds hand has a lume arrowhead tip. A black circular date window sits at 12 o’clock, and the white circular bezel mark above represents a lunar eclipse to honour the Sarmizegetusa Regia calendar, used by the ancient Dacians in Transylvania. A simple minutes/seconds track spans the perimeter, while dial text sits within a subtle yet distinctive inner circle.
Powering the Regia Lunar Eclipse Dark is a Sellita SW200-1 automatic that’s regulated in-house (an alternative to the ETA 2824-2). It has 26 jewels, beats at 28,800vph (4Hz), and comes with a 38-hour power reserve. Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and date. This has become such a successful workhorse for Sellita that it accounts for approximately half of its total production (800,000 per year).
The Peren Regia Lunar Eclipse Dark is hand assembled in Switzerland and retails for CHF 777. There are two additional models in the collection, Regia Solar Eclipse in silver and Regia Lunar Eclipse in silver and black. For more information and to place an order, please visit Peren’s website.

If one wants a vanilla dive watch, then this would be it.
