The New Pequignet Attitude with Tiger’s Eye Stone Dial
The French brand’s classic unisex dress watch dons a hypnotic Tiger’s Eye stone dial.
As the only French manufacturer to design and produce its movements in France, Pequignet flies the Tricolour with pride. With four in-house calibres under its belt, Pequignet’s ambitious plan to become an integrated manufacture became a reality in 2011 with the presentation of the Calibre Royal, followed by the Calibre Initial of 2021. The latest model to emerge from the Morteau manufacture belongs to the more dressier Attitude family of minimalist, unisex, time-only models, with two 39mm editions, featuring on-trend Tiger’s Eye dials.
A classic, compact 39mm case with straight lugs and an elegant polished finish throughout, the new Attitude models have a slim profile of 9.2mm that will easily slip under the cuff. Available in stainless steel and rose gold, the large crown is embossed with the brand’s fleur de lys logo. Water-resistant to 50 metres, enough for everyday activities, the dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, and the screwed caseback has a sapphire crystal to view the movement.
The protagonist of the watch is the natural Tiger’s Eye stone dial. A semi-precious gemstone, the characteristic golden and brown stripes of Tiger’s Eye produce a fascinating shimmering optical effect called chatoyancy. Similar to the effect of looking into a cat’s eye, a band of light reflects off the parallel inclusions, producing a luminous, 3D appearance.
The clean, understated dial allows the Tiger’s Eye to take centre stage. The applied indices have a rose gold finish, matching the leaf-shaped, rounded and polished hands. The only information on the dial is the white minutes track printed on the periphery with Manufacture Française below.
The Attitude Tiger’s Eye is powered by the Calibre Initial, Pequignet’s third in-house movement, with an openworked rotor providing the barrel with a 65-hour power reserve. Designed and assembled in Morteau, most of the components (72%) are made in France, while the remainder are sourced from Switzerland.
The steel model is paired with a light grey 18mm alligator strap, and the red gold model with a rosewood alligator strap, both made by Maison Jean Rousseau, with an ardillon buckle matching the case metal. Available in December at Pequignet boutiques and on the brand’s website, the Attitude Tiger’s Eye Steel model is a limited edition of 50 watches and retails for EUR 3,500; the rose gold model is limited to 5 pieces and retails for EUR 10,900.
