A New Steel-and-Rose Gold Iteration of the Parmigiani Tonda PF Micro-Rotor
The no-date version is attired in a handsome two-tone suit with an elegant Stone Blue dial.
Launched in 2021, the Tonda PF collection fulfilled two needs with one deed. On the one hand, it celebrated Parmigiani Fleurier’s 25th anniversary and the illustrious career of master watchmaker and founder Michel Parmigiani; on the other, it marked a trial by fire for the new collection, overseen by the newly appointed CEO, Guido Terreni. Happily, the refined luxury sports watch collection, complete with the beautiful tear-drop lugs of Michel Parmigiani’s original Tonda and the knurled bezel of the Toric, was well-received and praised for its sophistication and understatement. One of the foundation pieces was the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor. Originally issued with a date window, the slim Micro-Rotor streamlined its minimalist dial even further and was revisited last year without a date function. Joining the no-date models, Parmigiani releases an eye-catching two-tone steel-and-rose-gold version with a beautiful Stone Blue dial.
Like the recent Tonda PF Automatic 36mm, released in a steel-and-gold case, the new model dons a smart two-tone suit. Not to be confused with the no-date Automatic reference released in 2022 in a 36mm case with a height of 8.6mm, the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor has a 40mm case with a slimmer height of 7.8mm. Combining stainless steel and 18k rose gold, the gold is used to accentuate specific design details, such as the knurled, polished bezel and crown, the brushed second and fourth links of the integrated bracelet, and the polished indices, appliques, and hands on the dial. Reconciling a thin profile with the resilience expected from a luxury sports watch, the small 4.3mm screw-down crown ensures the 100m water-resistance of the case.
The hand-guilloché grain d’orge, or barleycorn, pattern of the Tonda PF family is featured on the new Stone Blue dial, an elegant tone that looks very smart with the rose gold indices, the oval cartouche at noon, and the skeletonised delta hands. With no date window, the wearer gets an uninterrupted view of the textured dial.
Inside is the in-house Calibre PF703, a slim automatic movement formerly used in the Tonda 1950 line, which has an operating frequency of 3Hz and a power reserve of 48 hours – not the highest, but satisfactory given its 3.07mm height. The 22k rose gold micro-rotor, integrated into the movement to reduce thickness, is decorated with a grain d’orge guilloché pattern. Other finishings include Côtes de Genève on the bridges and perlage on the base plate.
Worn on a two-tone integrated bracelet with concealed folding clasp, the steel-and-rose gold Parmigiani Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No-Date is released as part of the permanent collection. It is priced at CHF 28,200. For more details, please visit www.parmigiani.com.
