For its 25th anniversary in 2021, Parmigiani Fleurier presented the Tonda PF collection, its own take on the luxury sports watch with integrated bracelet overseen by the recently appointed CEO – Guido Terreni – who until then was one of the key people responsible for Bulgari’s success with the Octo Finissimo. The Tonda PF was a pleasant update to the long-standing Tonda collection, with several new references launched, one more beautiful than the other. This year, Parmigiani Fleurier chose to attire its fundamental Tonda PF Micro-Rotor in precious metal highlighting “the concept of purism that guides the creative approach of Parmigiani Fleurier.” Meet the all-platinum Tonda PF Micro-Rotor.

The newly released watches did the seemingly impossible – Parmigiani, a niche brand, has again been talked about as one of the leading companies offering exceptional timepieces to the great delight of its loyal fans and a much wider public. Four new models, including a time and date watch, a chronograph, an annual calendar and a split-seconds chronograph, featured a new logo PF in a vertical oval below the 12 o’clock mark. All were presented with “barleycorn” Guilloché Grain d’orge decoration on the dials, openworked gold hour and minute hands, and short indices applied, all with integrated bracelets. The Tonda PF Split-Seconds Chronograph was an all-platinum reference (case, dial, bracelet) produced as a limited edition of 25 pieces.

The new Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Platinum variant continues to impress with the perfect proportions and execution of the polished and satin-finished 40mm case with the signature knurled bezel and ergonomic quality. Only 7.8mm thick, thanks to the micro-rotor integrated into the ultra-thin (3mm high) movement, the watch is comfortable to wear. Still, the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor is not a delicate object; it fits into the luxury sports watch category. Water resistance up to 100m and other qualities and presentation prove the point.

The platinum dial with the sandblasted finish is concise enough to remind us that only time matters and the date – for the latter, there is a small aperture at 6 o’clock. The short applied gold hour indices are rhodium plated; the same goes for the gold delta-shaped skeletonized hands.

The watch is powered by one of the brand’s flagship movements, classic micro-rotor automatic calibre PF703, updated, with 48 hours of power reserve and an operating frequency of 3Hz. You can observe the movement with its Côtes de Genève and circular graining décor through the sapphire caseback. The oscillating weight is platinum for better winding inertia; it is decorated with Guilloché Grain d’orge and the PF logo.

  1. Have they done a special batch of real hand knurled bezels for this? It’s already confirmed the others are CNC.
