The New Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Ultra-Cermet
The alluring looks and feel of the avant-garde material used for the new Tonda PF Chronographs.

Marking a world first, Parmigiani Fleurier introduces an innovative composite material into the luxury watchmaking arena on board its new Tonda PF Chronograph. Known as Ultra-Cermet, Cer- for ceramic and Met- for metal, this avant-garde composite combines the hardness and temperature resistance of ceramic with the lightness and ductility of metal. Slightly larger than earlier Tonda PF Sport Chronographs but still powered by the chronometer-certified, high-frequency integrated chronograph movement, the new models are available with London Grey and Milano Blue dials.
The recipient of this innovative composite material is the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph, introduced in 2023. Envisioned as the brand’s replacement for the Tonda GT collection, the Tonda PF Sport draws inspiration from Tonda PF design cues but is endowed with a sportier, more resilient character.
Used in aerospace and other high-tech industries, cermets combine the ductility and thermal conductivity of metal with the compressive strength and hardness of ceramic. Some varieties of cermet are potential candidates for spacecraft shielding, offering resistance to the impacts of orbital debris. Using a specially calibrated alloy of titanium and ceramic, the Ultra-Cermet used for the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph has a hardness of 1450 Vickers and exceptional resistance to scratches. Cold to the touch and light on the wrist, Cermet has a unique ability to reflect light, creating a visual depth that changes according to the angle and intensity of the lighting.
Three years in the making, the case, bezel, crown, pushers and buckle of the new PF Sport Chronographs are made from scratch-resistant Cermet. The result is a dark grey 72-component case with a diameter of 42.5mm and a thickness of 13.3mm. Slightly larger than earlier editions (42mm x 12.9mm), the case maintains its characteristic fluted bezel, is decorated with polished and satin-finished surfaces and respects the 100m depth rating.
The dials, treated with a blackor 9-carat gold-nickel deposit and a vertical-brushed finish, have a greyish-black tone matching the metallic sheen of the case. Available with London Grey or Milano Blue sub-dials, the overall look is low-key and subtle. The short 18k gold blackor-plated indices are hand-applied to the periphery of the dial and, along with the delta-shaped openworked gold hands, treated with Super-LumiNova. The PF cartouche is featured at noon, and the date window has been eliminated.
The sapphire caseback offers a view of the in-house PF070 calibre, an automatic integrated chronograph with a column wheel and vertical clutch. The 288-part movement has a high frequency of 5Hz and a 65-hour power reserve. Chronometer-certified by COSC, the movement is hand-finished and features a solid 22k skeletonised gold rotor.
The Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Ultra-Cermet models come with a Milano Blue or London Grey textured rubber strap and an Ultra-Cermet pin buckle. The price is CHF 39,900 for both editions. More information at parmigiani.com.
