Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph Silver Verzasca
Spring is in the air, captured in the attractive green tones of PF’s high-frequency chronograph.
Guido Terreni, the CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier since 2021, has focused on developing the Tonda PF collection, a refined luxury sports watch characterised by understated elegance and fine craftsmanship. A sportier counterpart to the main Tonda PF line, the Tonda PF Sport was launched in 2023 with automatic and chronograph models on integrated rubber straps. With warmer weather on the horizon, Parmigiani releases an attractive steel version of its high-frequency chronograph, with colours inspired by Switzerland’s Verzasca Valley.
Positioned as the sportiest and more casual expression of the more rarefied Tonda PF family, the Tonda PF Sport replaced the earlier Tonda GT. Available in rose gold, steel and high-tech Ultra-Cermet cases, the latest Tonda PF Sport in stainless steel shares its 42mm diameter and 12.9mm thickness with earlier models. The refined teardrop-shaped lugs and pushers reflect the design language of the Tonda PF family, although the knurled bezel is not crafted in platinum and has fewer incisions for a bolder look. Combined with an enlarged screw-down crown for better grip, the case is decorated with alternating brushed and polished finishes and is water-resistant to 100 metres.
The attractive green colour selected for the sub-dials and peripheral scale is inspired by the crystalline waters of the Verzasca River, which runs through an alpine landscape of granite rocks. Instead of the classic barleycorn guilloché motif of its Tonda PF siblings, the silver-toned dial of the Tonda PF Sport is decorated with a clou triangulaire (triangular nail) guilloché pattern. Another difference from earlier references is the elimination of the date window at 4:30. The only branding visible on the dial is the elegant white-gold oval PF cartouche, set at 12 o’clock.
Steering clear of the more technical nature of sporty chronographs, the Tonda PF Sport does not have a tachymetre scale; in its place is a precision track without numerals. The green recessed counters – 12-hour totaliser at 9, 30-minute totaliser at 3, and running seconds at 6 o’clock – are decorated with a contemporary sandblasted finish, with white markings and hands that match the colour and texture of the peripheral track. The rhodium-plated 18k white gold indices are applied by hand and enhanced with a black luminescent coating that matches the coating applied to the tips of the elegant gold delta-shaped hour and minute hands.
This competent, high-frequency chronograph is powered by the automatic calibre PF070. Made in-house, in collaboration with sister company Vaucher Manufacture, the movement has a modern, relatively compact 30.6mm construction with a thickness of 6.95mm. Fitted with a column wheel, a vertical clutch and a one-piece reset hammer, it beats at a high frequency of 5Hz and delivers a robust 65-hour power reserve. Chronometer-certified by COSC, the movement is beautifully hand-finished and features a solid 22k rose gold rotor.
The colour-matched rubber strap with a textile-like surface has a stainless steel folding clasp. The watch retails for EUR 32,300. More information at parmigiani.com.
