A young, independent atelier dedicated to enamel introduces a new collection in which colours and textures come together on a single dial.
Enamel watches are nothing new, of course, but it is always interesting to discover a young independent brand approaching this centuries-old craft with a new take. O&HoraPictor was founded only recently, in 2024; the brand grew out of founder Eriks’s long-standing exploration of enamel, including the establishment of his own enamel atelier in 2017. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the latest creation, the Duet.
The brand already works with several forms of enamel decoration across its existing collections. The Totem series explores cloisonné enamel, while the Track Compass relies on opaque enamel and the Smoked Ocean models combine enamel with silver leaf. Each takes a rather different visual direction, showing that the young atelier is not restricting itself to a single decorative technique. Now comes a new collection named Duet, built around the synergy of two elements on a single dial.
The name explains the concept. Duet is about two voices, two elements that retain their individual character while complementing one another. In some models, this takes the form of two enamel hues, presented together beneath the distinctive lustre and depth of Grand Feu enamel. In others, the contrast comes not from colour but from the combination of smooth enamel and hand-engraved silver. Duet is a collection with several distinct personalities, all built around the same central idea.
The O&HoraPictor Duet is housed in a 316L stainless steel case with an elegant concave bezel and twisted lugs, available in three diameters: 36mm, 38mm and 40mm (for reference, the “Bee” model you can see in this article measures 36mm). All versions measure 10.2mm thick, making this a relatively slim watch. The case is fitted with a sapphire crystal on the front and a solid caseback, keeping the focus firmly on the dial. Water resistance is rated at 50m, more than enough for daily use. The overall design is quite restrained and elegant, providing a classic frame for what remains an artisanal and highly traditional craft.
The dial is where O&HoraPictor reveals most of its energy. As mentioned, the idea was to bring two elements together on a single dial. In its more colourful variants, two enamel hues are combined to create subtle contrasts. This part of the collection includes the Bee (visible here), with a warm honey-coloured dial, the Lagoon, with aquamarine tones, and the Olive, which, despite its name, is actually closer to a fresh lime green.
Then come Submarine Canyon and Rhapsody, which rely on a more textural approach. Instead of contrasting two enamel colours, these watches pair smooth enamel with a hand-engraved silver base. The Submarine Canyon is presented in deep blue, while the Rhapsody brings a much richer cherry-red dial to the collection. In both watches, the silver base is hand-engraved with thousands of individual marks, creating a sense of depth for the enamel to express itself in another voice. The smooth surface of the enamel remains still, while the engraved silver creates a dynamic texture. As the light shifts across the dial, the two surfaces react differently.
On all references, the pen-shaped hands indicate the hours and minutes on a sector-style ring marked with Roman numerals for the even hours and double-digit minutes in Arabic at 10-minute intervals starting with “05”. The flame-blued central seconds hand glides above the surface and contrasts nicely against the dials’ colours.
The watches in the Duet series are powered by the Sellita SW200-2M b Power+, a manually wound movement operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour, with a rather comfortable 65 hours of power reserve – an evolution of the classic SW200 revealed recently.
The O&HoraPictor Duet is worn on leather straps, closed with a pin buckle. The Submarine Canyon and Rhapsody are each limited to 20 pieces, and prices start from USD 2,892 for these two references. The Bee, the Lagoon and the Olive models, with smooth two-tone enamel dials, are forming a permanent collection, with prices starting at USD 2,315. Note that prices are identical regardless of the chosen case size. All in all, with solid mechanics inside, elegant design and refined dials, it makes for a rather appealing release.
