Formex Takes its Field Watch to the Air with the New AirField Titanium Pilot’s Watch

In 2022, Formex launched the Field Automatic, a 41mm titanium field watch developed with the brand’s signature focus on practical engineering. The series was refined in 2025 with the Field Automatic Gen 2, boasting a slimmer 40mm case, a reworked two-part dial and a more compact overall profile. Now, Formex takes that same platform in a different (upwards) direction, introducing an aviation-inspired display and a more powerful movement, with no compromise on the affordability of the watch. Meet the new Formex AirField series.

The AirField uses the same 40mm Grade 2 titanium construction as the Field Gen 2, measuring 10.5mm thick with a 48mm lug-to-lug. Short lugs and a relatively slim profile preserve the easy-wearing proportions. The case weighs just 54 grams without the strap and benefits from Formex’s hardening treatment, increasing surface hardness to approximately 900 Vickers. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating protects the dial. The watch is fitted with a screw-down crown, has a hardened titanium caseback decorated with a radial aircraft engine motif, and is water-resistant to 150m.

For the dial, Formex adapted the functional design of aviation instruments. The finely grained, stamped dial features a sloped chapter ring that rises towards the sapphire crystal. Recessed, stencil-style Arabic numerals and hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova, and a triangle flanked by two dots at 12 o’clock serves as a familiar orientation marker.

The broad, sandblasted sword-shaped hour and minutes hands are designed for instant reading. A long, slender seconds hand features an aircraft-shaped counterweight. The date remains at 6 o’clock in Formex’s characteristic bevelled window. The four dial colours, Desert Sand, Horizon Blue, Jet Black and Tarmac Grey, each receive a matching date disc. Desert Sand uses blacked-out lume, while the other three versions use BGW9.

Inside the case, Formex replaces the classic Sellita SW200-1 used in the Field Gen 2 with the new SW200-2 Power+, extending the power reserve of this ETA 2824 alternative from 41 to a solid 65 hours. This automatic movement runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour and uses 26 jewels, displaying hours, minutes, seconds and the date.

The AirField can be ordered with lightweight elastic nylon Velcro straps in black, blue, khaki green or sand. Leather options are offered in several colours and can be combined with Formex’s carbon-fibre composite deployant clasp, which provides 7mm of gradual fine adjustment. All straps use Formex’s Quick Release system and can be changed without tools.

The Formex AirField is available for pre-order from September 24, 2026, with deliveries to begin at the end of October. Prices are EUR 950 or CHF 830 on a nylon strap, and EUR 1,075 or CHF 970 with leather and the carbon-fibre deployant clasp, making it a truly compelling offer in this segment.
