Building on the original Essence Ceramica introduced in March 2025 and the distinctive Dark Matter meteorite dial that followed, Formex is back at work with a bolder take on its sports watch. Using motorsport as an inspiration, the new Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift combines new finishes for the case, colorful accents and a powerful movement. And, as every Formex watch, it is feature-packed and designed to be both super practical and highly resistant.

In line with the Essence Ceramica introduced earlier this year, the new Dark Matter Redshift edition is made entirely in black, scratch-resistant zirconium oxide ceramic. The case, equipped with Formex’s patented Case Suspension System (a suspended titanium container encircling the movement)and a screw-down crown, measures 41mm in diameter, a reasonable 11.2mm in thickness and, despite the rather large width, it is only 46.2mm lug-to-lug. Water-resistance is rated at 100m, and the watch features sapphire crystals on both sides, with multiple layers of AR coating.

There are some notable changes for this edition, both on the dial and the case. The latter has been given a stealthier look thanks to a sandblasted finish with a fine, light-absorbing texture that also makes fingerprints less visible. That said, Formex also gives it some nice touches with diamond-polished bevels and a newly cut lower-bezel facet. The crown is also in sandblasted ceramic, with its own bevelled edge.

For its dial, the Essence Ceramica Dark Matter Redshift brings a Muonionalusta meteorite. Instead of using thin slices glued onto a brass plate, Formex takes a different approach by using a solid slice of meteorite, on which the dial feet can be soldered. It is then coated with an ultra-fine black-gold galvanic plating (under a micron thick), giving it a darker edge while preserving the Widmanstätten structure. As the name Redshift suggests, the dial has been given red accents on the logos, the flange and the seconds hand, for performance-inspired contrast. Gunmetal-finished hands and applied hour markers, filled with Super-LumiNova, bring the finishing touch.

Inside the case is the recently unveiled Sellita SW200-2 Power+, a more powerful evolution of the tried-and-tested SW200, now boasting 65 hours of power reserve, thanks to a revised gear train, winding system and regulating mechanism. In addition, the movement is here chronometer-certified by COSC, achieving an average daily accuracy between -4 and +6 seconds per day. Finally, the Dark Matter Redshift is delivered on a solid ceramic bracelet with the same combination of finishes as the case – sandblasted and polished bevels. It is closed by a solid ceramic clasp with micro-adjustment (5mm in total, with 4 steps). The bracelet is easily interchangeable and can be swapped for one of the optional straps (rubber, nylon or leather).

Released in a limited production of 100 pieces annually, with the inaugural series individually numbered 001 to 100, the Formex Essence Ceramica COSC 41mm Dark Matter Redshift is expected to be delivered at the end of November 2026. It is priced at CHF 3,500, USD 4,450 or EUR 4,190. For more details, please visit formexwatch.com.
