The Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Edition Intense Black

First introduced in 2016, the handsome Monsieur de Chanel collection stands out by the refined, geometric layout of its dial with from top to bottom the retrograde minutes, the seconds, and the jump hour window. Originally offered in precious metals, the watch was later released in different high-tech, still retaining the elegance you would expect from Chanel. On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2024, we get a new version of the “Superleggera” inspired by the sleek elegance of racing cars.

Like the 2021 Superleggera edition, this new Monsieur de Chanel comes in a 42mm case, with a black ceramic and steel case. Inspired by racing car speedometers, its dial is still slightly openworked to reveal part of the movement. It still features different textures (clous de Paris, concentric circles for the small seconds) that bring an extra measure of depth. However, the colours and finishes are slightly different, in particular with several details now accented in yellow-golden colour instead of red.

The Monsieur de Chanel is powered by the beautiful hand-wound Calibre 1, the first movement developed and manufactured by Chanel (with indie watchmaker Romain Gauthier participating in its conception). This 32.60mm movement brings together a jumping hour and retrograde minutes display (on a 240-degree arch). It beats at a 4Hz frequency and delivers 72 hours of power reserve on two barrels. It is visible at the back of the watch with its architectural, skeletonized circular bridges. Its black finish matches the monochromatic look of the watch.

The Monsieur de Chanel Superleggera Edition Intense Black comes on a textured nylon strap with a black calf leather lining and a steel triple folding clasp. It is released in a limited edition of 100 watches. The price is set at CHF 44,650. For more information, visit chanel.com.
