Though still under a decade old, independent watchmaker Ming has already established a solid reputation in the horological world, so much so that it hardly needs an introduction. With its instantly recognisable aesthetic, the brand has released several standout models over the years, including the 19.02 Worldtimer. First introduced in 2023, the 29.01 Worldtimer showcased Ming’s signature blend of thoughtful design and technical innovation. Building on that foundation, the brand unveils a sleek new iteration: the 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer. Its dark, stealth-inspired palette, first seen on the 37.09 Uni, adds a mysterious edge to an already compelling design.

The 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer features a 40mm diameter case, measuring 11.8mm thick and offering 50 metres of water resistance. It’s crafted from Grade 5 titanium with a durable black DLC coating. A defining feature of the case is the deep box sapphire crystal on the front, which doubles as both the crystal and bezel. This component is seamlessly bonded to the case body, enabling a clean, bezel-less construction. For optimal clarity, the front and domed rear sapphire crystals are treated with double-sided anti-reflective coating.

The case body incorporates Ming´s signature openworked “flying blade” lugs, which interlock precisely with the caseback via a machined groove, resulting in a seamless underside. The lugs feature contrasting polished upper and lower surfaces, while the case sides are finished in matte blasting, creating a dynamic interplay of textures and form.

At the base of the dial is a rotating metallic disc carrying the 24-hour scale, which is adjustable and read against a fixed city ring displayed across two levels of a sapphire dial. Every element, from the city ring to the hour markers and hands, is filled with high-performance HyCeram infused with Super-LumiNova X1, ensuring exceptional low-light legibility. The 24-hour disc also features Super-LumiNova X1 print, and the orange numerals glow in orange, offering visual flair and functional contrast. Sapphire hands continue Ming’s minimalism and transparency design language, also filled with HyCeram ceramic Super-LumiNova X1 for consistent nighttime visibility.

Powering the watch is the Schwarz-Etienne for Ming Cal. ASE 222, an automatic movement with bidirectional winding via a redesigned tungsten micro-rotor, shaped with a fluid, organic silhouette for improved efficiency. Mounted on ceramic ball bearings, the rotor operates smoothly and with reduced friction. A four-level “staircase” rotor guard with anglage adds depth and visual intrigue. Bridges and plates are coated in warm 5N rose gold and finished with diamond-cut anglage, lending a romantic elegance to the otherwise technical architecture. The skeletonised mainspring barrel enhances the openwork aesthetics and allows a clearer view of the remaining power, which totals approximately 86 hours at full wind.

The watch is paired with a 22mm black moulded FKM rubber strap featuring curved quick-release bars and a “flying blade” tuck buckle with micro-adjustment. An additional strap is included with the purchase.

Limited to 25 pieces, the Ming 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer is priced at CHF 22,000 (excluding taxes), with deliveries expected in June 2025. For more details, visit ming.watch.

  1. Pretty creative / weird choices for locations; South Africa is striking, especially that they don’t have DST. There are a few others too. But for 25 pieces probably it doesn’t matter much 🙂
