MB&F Releases Two New M.A.D.2 Eric Giroud Editions, Each with a Different Allocation System
The M.A.D.2 REDemption is exclusively for loyal fans who have participated in 4 raffles but never secured a watch, while the M.A.D.2 R&B will be raffled as usual.
Originally intended as a way to thank 500 of the brand’s suppliers and clients who couldn’t afford an MB&F watch, Max Büsser came up with the M.A.D.1, an accessible one-off project. Inevitably, the news leaked, and requests from the watch community escalated into a frenzy, prompting the annual release of M.A.D. Editions via a raffle system. In 2025, in collaboration with designer Eric Giroud, the brand released the M.A.D.2. Returning this year, Giroud and Büsser unveil two new M.A.D.2 editions with very different allocation systems. The M.A.D.2 R&B will be allocated through the established raffle system, while the M.A.D.2 REDemption is set aside exclusively for loyal, but unlucky, fans of the brand who have participated in at least four previous raffles and never taken home the prize.
Eric Giroud’s design for the 2025 M.A.D.2 marked a radical departure from the trajectory established by the M.A.D.1 and its commercial offspring – the M.A.D.1 Red, the M.A.D.1 Green, the collaboration “Time to Love” piece and the slimmer M.A.D.1S – which all featured an exposed triple-blade battle-axe rotor on the dial in MB&F’s characteristic kinetic language.
Inspired by 1990s club culture, Giroud’s vision for the M.A.D.2 features two raised sub-dials displaying jumping hours and trailing minutes, designed to resemble the turntables of a DJ mixing console, with grooves like those of a vinyl record engraved into the central dial plate. Animating the scenery, the automatic rotor with perforations is revealed beneath the dial plate. Designed to emulate the stroboscopic band of a Technics SL-1200 Mark 2 turntable, the rotor swings over a series of Super-LumiNova stop pins.
The case of Giroud’s M.A.D.2 is organic and streamlined with a smooth, rounded pebble-like appeal. With a diameter of 42mm and a height of 12.3mm, the polished case has a rounded bezel, traditional lugs and domed sapphire crystals on both sides. Fun details like the alien face on the crown and clasp echo the almond-shaped hour and minute pointers, often interpreted as guitar picks.
Sharing a similar movement to the M.A.D.1S Slim, the new models are powered by the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G101. A robust automatic with a 4Hz frequency and a 64-hour power reserve, the base is surmounted by an MB&F-developed module with bi-directional jumping hours and trailing minutes. Visible on the caseback, the black perforated rotor imitating the stroboscopic band of the Technics turntable reveals parts of the movement.
MB&F has taken the saying “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” to heart, and the M.A.D.2 REDemption will compensate loyal fans of the brand who have participated in at least four previous raffles without ever winning. This watch is exclusively for these persistent folk and features a couple of fun details like the “They say I’m stubborn, I’d say persistent” inscription engraved on the black rotor and the red background of the alien on the crown. Inverting the colour scheme of the R&B, the REDemption features a bright red dial plate with a black jumping hour and trailing minutes disc. These die-hard fans will be contacted directly by the M.A.D.Editions Team and will not need to participate in a raffle. If they are interested in buying the watch, they will have direct access to it.
The M.A.D.2 R&B, short for Red & Black and a nod to the music genre, has a black central plate, complete with grooves surmounted by two red discs for the jumping hours on the left and trailing minutes on the right. As with previous editions, the R&B is available via raffle. To give everybody time to participate, registrations will remain open for one week – April 14 to April 20 – before a random draw, supervised by a bailiff, will determine the lucky winners.
Both models are paired with leather straps and stainless steel folding buckles with an alien face in the clasp. The retail price of both editions is CHF 2,900 (excl. tax). Fans interested in participating in the M.A.D.2 R&B raffle should click this link: mbandf.com/madeditions-raffles.
