The New Maen x Nico Leonard Jumping Hour Limited Edition

A nice and well-executed take on a timeless design made accessible.

| By Denis Peshkov | 2 min read |

For its latest limited-edition watch, Stockholm-based, Dutch-rooted microbrand Maen (known for its accessible watches) has partnered with Nico Leonard – a well-known Dutch YouTube watch man famous for his outspoken style. This collaboration, the Maen x Nico Leonard Jumping Hour, blends familiar design elements while making a historically significant complication accessible to a broader audience. Here’s what we know.

The Maen x Nico Leonard features a sleek, barrel-shaped stainless steel case crafted with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces for a dynamic, contrasting look. Measuring a compact 34mm across and 9.7mm thick, it features a solid caseback secured with six screws and offers 50 meters of water resistance. While its shape resembles the F.P. Journe Vagabondage, its dial design draws inspiration from Guichet-style watches – the Cartier Tank à Guichets springs to mind first. However, many other brands have embraced this distinctive display over the years, such as Louis Vuitton recently.

The jumping hour window is step-framed and follows the case’s silhouette. Minutes are displayed on a rotating disc – so-called dragging minutes – emphasized by a pointer with the Pride & Pinion symbol, referring to Nico Leonard’s Belfast-based watch business. The dial comes in three colours: Forest Green, Classic Black, and Vibrant Red, all finished with a sunray-brushed texture for added elegance.

To keep the watch competitively priced, Maen has modified the automatic Sea-Gull ST1721 jumping hour movement, which offers a 48-hour power reserve. Unlike most ST1721-powered watches, which use a centrally mounted hand for the minutes, this model features a minutes disc and no small seconds, setting it apart with a cleaner, more elegant display.

The watch is offered with a custom FKM rubber strap available in black, green, or white, depending on the dial colour, secured with a folding clasp. This stylish and versatile watch will be available for pre-order only during a limited sales window from 16:00 CET on April 7, 2025, until 23:59 CET on April 13, 2025.

The Maen x Nico Leonard Jumping Hour watch is priced at EUR 999 and will be sold exclusively at maenwatches.com.

  1. Wow they totally bit Zentier’s design. Shameless! At least the original a little time to breathe lol

  2. Niton was manufacturing movements that made wristwatches like this possible over 100 years ago. I believe their jump hour movements even beat Cartier’s to the market.

    For example: http://www.nitonsa.com/watches.php?id=158

The modern watch industry does not seem to be capable of delivering a beautiful movement like the grand old Niton.

The Zentier is a more original design for sure, as this Maen is borrowing the case shape from Journe and the fonts from Cartier/Niton. At less than $1500 USD, it’s hard to be very upset with a copycat.

  3. Why connect such a classic design with a person who, lets say, is rather on the opposite spectrum of classic virtues

  4. What a beautiful watch. Does it come with a magnifying glass for those tiny windows?

  5. Wow, just 1K for a watch equipped with a 🇨🇳 movement!
Not to mention that it is associated with a loud moth nobody who rates Rolex as “sh*te” and “would buy” Invicta…

No wonder there is zero originality in this “collab”.
