Union Glashütte is a Swatch Group company with many beautiful watches in the catalogue, offering intelligent design, good quality, and friendly prices that make its references appealing. Recently, the brand unveiled a series of classic car rally-inspired limited editions, drawing admiration from car enthusiasts and watch fans alike. Among Germany’s premier classic car rallies, the annual Sachsen Classic in Saxony stands out as a highlight for vintage car lovers. Lasting several days and winding through picturesque landscapes, this rally offers participants a chance to showcase their beautifully preserved classic cars while revelling in the region’s natural beauty. To mark the 20th anniversary of Sachsen Classic, Union Glashütte presents the limited edition Noramis Chronograph – a watch that emanates a delightful retro feel. Let’s take a closer look.

The Noramis Chronograph Limited Edition Sachsen Classic 2023 has a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter, 14.45mm in thickness, and 50.05mm lug-to-lug, with a lug width of 22mm. The charming retro mushroom pushers and the intense brown dial accentuate its vintage style. A domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating graces the dial, featuring black and chrome elements in the centre, reminiscent of retro ventilation grilles in classic cars. The composition is enriched by a small date window at 9 o’clock (note a corrector at the side at 10 o’clock) and a 30-minute totaliser at 3 o’clock. The black railway minute track adds a touch of vintage allure and completes the nostalgic charm. The hour markers, an artistic blend of Arabic numerals and shiny dots, create a three-dimensional effect that is truly captivating.

The Super-LumiNova-coated hour and minute hands ensure optimal legibility in the dark, while the central chronograph hand and the minute counter’s small hand sport a noble white lacquer finish. The Union Glashütte/SA. logo and mentions of the Noramis collection, chronograph function, and limited edition (in German) add to the watch’s balanced layout. At the bottom, ‘Made in Germany’ completes the printed information, underscoring the watch’s provenance and craftsmanship.

Turning the timepiece over, you’ll find the self-winding UNG-27.S2 chronograph movement beating at a frequency of 28,800vph, offering a good power reserve of approximately 60 hours. Based on a modified Valjoux 7750, this calibre is equipped with a silicon balance spring for enhanced longevity, precision, and resistance to magnetic fields – a testament to Union Glashütte’s commitment to quality. Enhancing the versatility of the Noramis Chronograph, the watch comes with two straps – an elegant cognac-coloured calfskin strap and a sportier black calfskin strap with racing holes – easily interchangeable. The straps are secured with a double-fold fastener featuring twin push-buttons, marrying style and convenience seamlessly.

Unlike speed-focused competitions, the Sachsen Classic rally celebrated by the Union Glashütte Noramis Chronograph emphasises precision and adherence to time schedules, fostering a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Indeed, this limited-edition timepiece, with only 350 pieces available and priced at EUR 3,600, promises to deliver a safe and enjoyable experience that embodies the spirit of classic car rallies.

  1. What a horrible design. The designer of this and of other watches with a date window at “9” position should be fired in my honest opinion.

The date window is too much centered, due to the fact that a too small movement has been used.

The date position does not fit to a watch you wear on your left arm. This is a typical “destro” position and then also the pushers should be on the left side.

In my opinion Union would to good to place the date at “6” as this position covers best that the movement is too small for the watch.

    I don’t like this watch.
