The New And Delectable TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper Gold
The seas are yours to conquer with this very special regatta-countdown chronograph.
Last year, TAG Heuer launched the Skipper, a watch design inspired by one of the brand’s historic designs. Heuer created the original Skipper after the yacht Intrepid’s victory in the 1967 America’s Cup, where the crew used Heuer’s yachting timers and Aquastar wristwatches. The new Skipper, made of stainless steel, paid tribute to this heritage. This year’s Skipper is even more special, with a precious metal casing that preserves its vintage inspiration.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper has a 39mm case made of 18K 5N rose gold, measuring 13.9mm in thickness with a lug-to-lug distance of 46mm. It features a blend of fine-brushed and polished finishes and classic rose gold chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, alongside a rose gold crown at 3 o’clock. The case has a screw-down caseback made of solid rose gold sapphire, ensuring a water resistance of up to 100m.
The watch’s glass-box domed sapphire crystal, treated with double AR-coating, protects the dial, which has several references to the iconic Skipper model 7754 of 1968. The blue circular brushed dial pairs well with two contrasting sub-dials at 9 and 3 o’clock: a 12-hour counter in ‘Intrepid Teal’ marked by the model’s name, Skipper, and a 15-minute regatta counter divided into three segments of varying colours, inspired by the colour scheme of Intrepid’s rigging, deck, and the maritime world’s popular orange.
The dial’s blue flange with a seconds/minutes track features triangular markers at five-minute intervals, accentuating the rose gold plated, facetted, and polished applied hour indices. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the angled date window integrates into the discreet running seconds subdial. The rose gold plated, facetted, and polished hour and minute hands, with orange lacquered triangular tips, are coated with white Super-LumiNova for visibility in the dark. The central chronograph seconds hand stands out with its lacquered orange hue.
The Skipper’s transparent caseback showcases the in-house Heuer 02 regatta-updated calibre, which has a new bidirectional rotor shaped like TAG Heuer’s iconic shield symbol. This column wheel chronograph movement with a vertical clutch operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and has an impressive 80-hour power reserve.
The rose gold TAG Heuer Skipper has a blue textile strap secured by a rose gold pin buckle. The price of this timepiece, which is not limited by the way, is CHF 21,000.
