The New Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, with New Movement
An updated and upgraded, more compact, cleaner and smarter version of the brand´s classic.
Since its debut in 2012, the Frederique Constant Classic Worldtimer Manufacture, like its Perpetual Calendar, has become one of the brand’s defining watches. Combining a practical travel complication with in-house mechanics at accessible pricing, it quickly became a cornerstone of the catalogue. Now, more than a decade later, Frederique Constant introduces a thoroughly updated version of its worldtime watch, featuring a redesigned case, a new manufacture movement and a cleaner dial.
The new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is presented in three versions, including two classic models and a limited diamond-set edition. The latter brings a more jewellery-oriented expression of the watch. Still, the core of the release remains the two traditional references that retain the model’s original appeal of the mechanically driven, easy-to-use worldtime watch, refined. One of the most visible changes is the case size, which has been reduced from 42 mm to 40 mm. The polished stainless steel three-part case maintains the Classic collection’s elegant character, with curved lugs, a wide smooth bezel and a sapphire crystal on both sides.
Frederique Constant has also simplified the dial. The date indication, often criticised for overlapping the city disc, has been removed, allowing the worldtime display to take centre stage, uninterrupted. As before, a relief world map shows continents rising above the oceans. Surrounding it is the familiar 24-hour disc with day/night indication, with the city ring displaying the names of the 24 reference time zones on the dial´s periphery.
For the non-gem-set references, two dial versions are available at launch. The first retains the brand’s signature look, with navy blue oceans and grey-grained continents, and applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova. This version is presented on a new five-link stainless steel bracelet, with alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces for a contemporary look. The second version introduces different colourways with gradient blue oceans and taupe continents, contrasted by a white city disc. The layered textures and colour transitions create a more modern appearance. This model is worn on an interchangeable alligator leather strap. A third version, produced in a limited run of 88 pieces, is gem-set with 70 diamonds on the bezel and 12 diamond hour markers. This reference features a light blue dial and is worn on an interchangeable blue leather strap.
The new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture is powered by the newly developed manufacture calibre FC-719, the brand’s 35th in-house movement since its founding. The new movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour frequency, builds upon the architecture of the previous worldtimer calibre but significantly improves its performance. Most notably, the power reserve has been increased from 38 hours to 72 hours, offering three full days of autonomy. This improvement was achieved through a longer mainspring and revised materials. Despite the larger barrel required for the longer power reserve, the movement fits inside the smaller 40mm case.
The world time mechanism remains simple. Built from only 24 components, the module allows all functions to be adjusted via the crown, without the need for additional pushers or correctors, improving reliability, water resistance and ease of use. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement features traditional finishing, including Côtes de Genève, circular graining, and a decorated oscillating weight.
With a smaller case, cleaner dial design and the upgraded 72-hour FC-719 manufacture movement, the new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture remains one of the most accessible in-house worldtime watches, priced at EUR 4,995 (or EUR 7,995 for the diamond-set version).
