The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” Ceramic
A darker, more discreet blue ceramic meets Audemars Piguet’s most user-friendly perpetual calendar to date.
Audemars Piguet continues to refine one of its most emblematic complications with the launch of a new Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar in 41mm, entirely crafted in “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” ceramic. More than a new colourway, this release brings together two of the Manufacture’s most significant recent developments: the darker, historically rooted blue ceramic introduced in 2025 and the new-generation perpetual calendar movement, Calibre 7138. The watch feels both deeply familiar and decisively modern, and, quite simply, looks spectacular.
The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar has long occupied a special place within AP’s catalogue and has served as a showcase for technical mastery and material innovation. Audemars Piguet has already explored full ceramic executions of the RO QP in stealthy black, pristine white and a brighter, more saturated blue. This new “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” edition is darker, subtler and more discreet, directly referencing the original dial colour of Gérald Genta’s 1972 Royal Oak.
The 41mm case and integrated bracelet are made from this deep blue ceramic, combining lightness, scratch resistance and exceptional durability. As with all ceramic Royal Oaks, the challenge was in achieving a perfectly homogeneous colour, but also in preserving the sharp geometry and alternating finishes that define the design. At 9.5mm thick, the case remains impressively slim for a perpetual calendar, with wearing comfort provided by the low weight of ceramic. Water-resistance is 50m, a welcome upgrade over previous generations.
The dial features a blue Grande Tapisserie pattern, with matching blue sub-dials and inner bezel, creating a monochromatic and highly legible display. White gold hour markers and hands, filled with luminescent material, provide good contrast, and the moon-phase display gets the latest realistic depiction introduced with the new movement. Despite the density of information offered by the perpetual calendar (week indication, day, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year), the dial looks harmonious and well-organised.
Powering the watch is Calibre 7138, Audemars Piguet’s new-generation self-winding perpetual calendar movement, which measures just 4.1mm thick. Building on the research carried out for the ultra-thin RD#2 and the calibre 7121, this movement introduced a genuinely user-friendly feature: an all-in-one crown adjustment system. It allows all calendar functions to be set via the crown, without recessed correctors or tools, and without risk of damaging the mechanism, even during the traditional danger zone (marked in red on the 24-hour ring incorporated into the day indicator subdial at 9 o´clock). The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers a 55-hour power reserve.
Calibre 7138 is finished to Audemars Piguet’s usual high standards and can be viewed through the sapphire caseback. The full ceramic bracelet, closed by an AP folding clasp, completes the monochromatic appearance. The price of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” Ceramic is upon request.
