Unveiled in 2022 and already a great success worldwide for the brand, the Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic NJ015 was the direct descendant of another important collection for the Japanese watchmaker, the NH299 series. But above all, the Tsuyosa collection offered the ability for many watch enthusiasts to access the highly desirable sporty-chic integrated style of high-end icons. Already available in an array of cool colours, Citizen once again expands the collection with bold styles – including a salmon dial model – and releases the brand-new Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second series.

4 new colours for the Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic

Clearly one of the best value-for-the-money watches on the sporty-chic watch market with integrated design, the Citizen Tsuyosa Automatic made a remarkable entry in this field. Combining more-than-decent quality, a solid automatic movement, pleasant proportions and an undeniable cool factor on the wrist, this model has proven greatly suited for creativity and colours already in previous series.

At the Inhorgenta Fair 2024 in Munich, Citizen has come with its trunk full of surprises. In addition to the high-end The Citizen Mechanical Caliber 0210 we introduced yesterday, the Japanese watchmaker (which seems to have great interest in the Old Continent) unveils two Europe-exclusive Tsuyosa NJ015 models. The first one features an appealing vertically-brushed salmon dial – which we are obliged to love – and a bold yet fun green version with a textured camouflage dial. One specificity of these EU-only watches, they get rid of the cyclops over the date window.

As said, these two new models will only be available in Europe and are immediately available from retailers. The price remains the same as all previous versions of this affordable sporty-chic steel watch, meaning EUR 299.

In addition to these two EU models, Citizen is also introducing two new colours, which will be available worldwide in April 2024. Adding to an already long list of colours, the mechanical Citizen Tsuyosa will now be offered in orange and in “oak” (a beige/champagne version with gold-coloured hands and markers), both with sunray-brushed dials. Once again, the price will be EUR 299.

Other than these new colours, the watch remains identical to all previous versions, with its 40mm x 11.7mm barrel-shaped steel case, its recessed crown at 4 o’clock, a sapphire crystal on top, a see-through caseback and a 50m water-resistant. The dials are generously coated with lume and the baton hands are powered by the reliable calibre 8210 automatic. The 3-link bracelet featured rounded links for a 1980s look and a folding clasp.

Quick facts: 40mm diameter x 11.7mm thickness – stainless steel case, brushed with polished accents, crown at 4 o’clock – sapphire crystal (no cyclops for EU models) – see-through caseback – 50m water-resistant – brushed salmon or textured green camouflage (Exclusive to Europe) and orange and oak/beige dial – calibre 8210 automatic, 40h power reserve, 21,600vph – integrated 3-link steel bracelet – NJ0159-86Z (salmon) and NJ0159-86X (camouflage green) for Europe, available February 2024 – NJ0151-88W (oak/beige) and NJ0151-88Z (orange) available worldwide in April 2024 – EUR 299 for all versions

The new Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second Automatic

The real novelty of this year is this Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second Automatic. A more refined, more detailed and overall surprising addition to the already popular series, these new models share identical proportions (40mm x 11.7mm). However, as you can see, the bracelet has been revised with larger centre polished links but also a quick-release system and a concealed butterfly clasp.

The dials are quite a departure from the sleek look of the original central seconds models. Not only do these Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second have a new display, with a sub-dial at 6 o’clock, but the dials are highly textured with a stamped guilloché-like pattern – said to be inspired by the Art Deco era. Retaining large markers with lume, it’ll be available in grey, blue or salmon, always with a silver-coloured sub-seconds. A touch of colour can also be seen on the seconds hand.

Under the see-through caseback is a new and more powerful movement, the calibre 8322. Slightly more appealing with its silver-toned bridges and stripe decor, it boasts a generous power reserve of 60 hours and features a stop-seconds mechanism.

Worn either on a three-link steel bracelet (blue and salmon versions) or a black leather strap (grey model), the Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second series will be available as of April 2024 at a retail price of EUR 359 on leather strap and EUR 379 on bracelet.

Quick facts: 40mm diameter x 11.7mm thickness – stainless steel case, brushed with polished accents, crown at 4 o’clock – see-through caseback – 50m water-resistant – stamped guilloche-like dial in salmon, blue or grey, contrasting silver seconds – Calibre 8322 automatic, small second no-date, 60h power reserve, 21,600vph – integrated 3-link steel bracelet (blue, salmon) or leather strap (grey) – NK5010-51L (blue), NK5010-51X (salmon), NK5010-01H (grey) available worldwide in April 2024 – EUR 359 on leather, EUR 379 on steel bracelet

  1. The small second model is a looker and on both sides while price is very reasonable, I hope they do well!

  2. The bracelet was acceptable with the datejust clone dial but with faux guilloche; looks a little crude.

  3. Hopefully they offer this without an integrated bracelet. Not interested otherwise.
