The New, Refreshed NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik Collection of All-Rounder Watches
NOMOS' reliable, all-terrain watch with an elegant twist.
Known for its fresh take on German watchmaking, with many models having an elegant design with a twist, NOMOS has also some more robust watches in its collection, watches that can do it all and are so-called all-rounders. A watch that you can take for a ride on your bike, a meeting at the office, a night out with friends or a jump in a pool. With this in mind, the Saxon brand from Glahütte is revamping its successful Ahoi Atlantik collection with new dials and revamped specifications, in three different models to fit all tastes and needs. Here’s the 2022 NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik series, the all-terrain, nautical-inspired watch for summer.
Let’s start with the basics. The NOMOS Ahoi is a watch that takes on all the signature elements of the brand, and adds a thick layer of robustness and practicality. The design is unmistakably NOMOS and the connection with the emblematic Tangente, the most successful watch of the brand, is undeniable. The case, for instance, shares the same flat, cylindrical profile, and uses the same overall design for the lugs. The dial also relies on the signature typography that has made the Tangente such a recognizable design. What the Ahoi does compared to the Tangente is to be a watch for all situations. It’s not per se a true sports watch, it’s more of a watch for a daily use, a hassle-free model that retains elegance, but also has resistance.
As such, the cylindrical case of NOMOS has been transformed… not for the design, more for the specs. The polished, straight steel case is indeed water-resistant to 200 metres, more than enough for a weekend at the sea. Also, the screw-down crown is well protected, being inserted into a lateral guard. And yet, the dimensions are still versatile and slender enough to make it a watch suitable for a week/business use, just with a more casual attire. Sharp and modern, it’s the brand’s best definition of a sporty-chic watch for all terrains.
The concept of the NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik Collection isn’t new, as it has existed in the past already. But for this year, it’s been revamped with new colours and new design cues to make it fresher, more attractive. The name Atlantik (or Atlantic) is a reference to the deep blue colour of the dial and to the overall nautical feel of this series. There have been some changes on this side, compared to previous editions of the Ahoi Atlantik. The new models indeed have a new blue colour. The discontinued models used to have a rather neutral grey-blue dial, which is now replaced by a more saturated, “more blue” dial.
Also, the small rectangular hour markers are now light green-coloured and outlined in green (they used to be tone-on-tone). The red-coloured small seconds is retained though, and all the printings on the dial are now crisper and pure white. Finally, something new for the brand, not only the hour markers and hands are luminous, but also the classic Bauhaus-styled Arabic numerals and baton markers, making this watch highly legible, day or night. And since it can withstand 20ATM of pressure, it could even be good underwater. No worries to have in this case, thanks to the screw-down crown and the caseback with 6 screws.
Adding to the versatility of the Ahoi Atlantik collection, it is offered on a blue, woven textile strap that is meant to be resistant to water. You’ll also have the options for the steel “strap” or the steel sports bracelet, giving the collection a slightly more versatile and sportier vibe. And since all come with quick-release spring bars, changing from one to another will be an easy job.
The NOMOS Ahoi Atlantik collection is released with 3 different watches, two 40mm models and one 36mm version. Under the reference 557 (no-date) and 558 (Datum) are two watches with a 40.3mm diameter and a relatively thin – considering the specs – 10.6mm height. Both watches are powered by the automatic calibre DUW 5001 (no date) or DUW 5101 (date), in-house movements that feature the brand’s swing system and store up to 42 hours of power reserve. The decoration is typical NOMOS, with thin ribbings, blued screws and gold-coloured engravings.
The third model, the Ahoi Neomatik Atlantik, is a smaller take on the concept, with a 36.3mm case and a height of only 9.6mm. Despite the more compact dimensions, the specifications don’t change and the overall robustness is intact. This version is powered by the in-house, thin and compact Neomatik calibre with swing system (in-house escapement) and a 43h power reserve. Here again, the decoration is pleasant and typical NOMOS.

Thanks for the article. Point of correction though. The seconds hand is now red, not orange as in previous releases. Just confirmed on the Nomos website.
