The Grøne Oldenzaal Moment Meter, the Grönefeld Brothers’ Vision of an Accessible Chronograph
Following the inaugural Manueel One, the entry-level brand of the horological brothers comes back with a hand-wound chronograph.
While Grönefeld, the famed independent watchmaking company from the Netherlands, created by the so-called Horological Brothers (Tim and Bart), is nothing new on the scene, there’s another project that might not (yet) have the same impact: Grøne Oldenzaal. A recent venture of the brothers, this brand aims at bringing some of Grönefeld’s style and spirit into a far more accessible price range, a bit like what Max Büsser and MB&F have done with M.A.D.Editions. Following the inaugural Manueel One, a classic time-only dress watch inspired by the 1941 collection of Gönefeld, it’s time now for something slightly bolder, a chronograph. Meet the new Grøne Oldenzaal Moment Meter.

Grøne Oldenzaal is a parallel project for the Horological Brothers, a new brand playing in a totally different field of the industry. Grönefeld, the main brand of Tim and Bart, is known as one of the most revered watchmaking companies in the Netherlands, with impressive finishing and fascinating complications. And, as you’d expect, prices that are far from accessible to the majority of watch enthusiasts. With Grøne Oldenzaal, a brand named after the Brothers’ nickname (Grøne) and their city of birth (Oldenzaal), the idea was pretty straightforward: infuse some of Grönefeld’s spirit, in particular signature design elements, into more accessible, simpler watches for new watch collectors to experience some of the indies’ soul.

The journey of Grøne Oldenzaal started with the Manueel One, an inaugural model nicknamed Sjef’s One after the Brothers’ father (Sjef Grönefeld). A classic time-only hand-wound watch, it came packed with references to the 1941 collection – the 1941 Remontoire and 1941 Principia models – and a tremblage-like patterned dial in salmon and silver. Power came from a Sellita SW210, a reliable and tested movement that kept the price more accessible than anything stamped Grönefeld. Later, two other editions were launched, the Tim and Bart duo, with full-salmon or German silver-toned dials.
Time now for a new Grøne Oldenzaal watch, the Moment Meter. As you can see from the images, we’re now looking at a chronograph, once again equipped with an outsourced, tried-and-tested movement, and designed with more boldness than the inaugural Manueel One. The name “Moment Meter” was chosen because the watch is designed to “capture one’s significant spur-of-the-moment in life”. Let’s not talk about this too much and focus on the watch instead. Design-wise, this fairly compact chronograph is 39mm in diameter and 12mm in thickness, excluding the crystals (so expect something closer to 14mm in reality). The lugs and crown are clearly modelled after the Brothers’ 1941 case, with stepped lugs, a conical crown and a concave polished bezel.
The Moment Meter is, otherwise, fairly traditional, with a mix of vintage cues and modern architecture. There are sapphire crystals on both sides of the watch, with a decent water-resistance of 50m. The sides of the case are brushed and home to classic pump pushers. One detail, however, brings personality and visual boldness: the sapphire crystals on top and back are paired with specially made orange gaskets, adding a touch of Dutch-ness to the watch. Necessary…? Maybe not, but at least different.
Turning our attention to the dial, the Grøne Oldenzaal Moment Meter once again has clear Grönefled DNA, with a lower plate with sunray-brushed salmon finish and trapezoidal diamond-cut polished steel hour markers (again, classic 1941). Just like Grönefeld’s own chronograph, the superb 1941 Grönograaf, the sub-dials of the Moment Meter are built on raised, concave and convex plateaus, with rhodium plating and classic 1941 tracks. The same goes for the blued hour and minute lance-shaped hands; however, the chronograph hands are finished in orange. The periphery of the dial is home to a pulsometer scale, printed on a baby-blue backdrop with a fun heart detail…Like it or not. The dial is completed by a 1/5th of a second scale, even though the movement runs at 4Hz.
Under the sapphire caseback is a well-known movement sourced from La Joux-Perret. A hand-wound chronograph based on the emblematic Valjoux 7750 architecture, it is now equipped with a column-wheel and boasts an enhanced 60-hour power reserve. The movement is lightly decorated with perlage on the lower plate and Geneva stripes on the main bridge.
Worn on a 20/18mm nylon sailcloth strap in a vivid blue colour, the Grøne Oldenzaal Moment Meter will be available for order on 3 December 2025, at 3PM Europe Time. The watch is limited to 300 pieces and won’t be reproduced in this specific colour scheme. Deliveries are expected from January onwards. The Moment Meter is priced at EUR 3,490, excluding taxes, possible tariffs and shipping and will be available from grone.com.
