The entry-level brand of the Dutch horological brothers welcomes a new, refined dress watch with hand-wound movement.
By now, most of you must be familiar with the so-called Horological brothers, the duo of Dutch indie watchmakers behind Grönefeld and its superb, high-end and lavishly decorated watches. Highly desirable watches for sure, not for every pocket though. This is why, in 2024, Tim and Bart Grönefeld created a new brand named Grøne Oldenzaal, something that is comparable to what MB&F have done with M.A.D.Editions. Still instantly recognisable as designed and produced by the Dutch duo, the inaugural Manueel One and the subsequent Moment Meter Chronograph are, however, playing a totally different price segment. And now, a third model joins them, the new, hand-wound Grøne Oldenzaal Horologium.
Looking at this new Grøne Oldenzaal Horologium, the resemblance with the Grönefeld 1941 Principia is quite impossible not to mention – the case, dial, hands, and markers, as well as the overall style, are very closely related. On one hand, we can’t complain much about seeing this handsome, elegant watch’s design made more attainable. And at the same time, it raises questions regarding the justification of the price difference, especially for the owners of a 1941 Principia. Sure, the mechanics are vastly different, but the looks are not. Anyway, back to the Grøne Oldenzaal Horologium.
The watch is housed in a 39mm x 10mm stainless steel case with the Horological Brothers’ signature design: polished concave bezel, brushed flanks, downward-curving stepped lugs and a conical crown. Close to the inaugural Manueel One but refined for more comfort and elegance. The watch is framed by two sapphire crystals featuring distinctive orange gaskets, for a touch of Dutch-ness. Water-resistance is rated at 50 metres.
The Horologium comes in two different tastes: Quirky and Classic. The first one, as its name suggests, is nothing but conventional, with a vivid Dutch orange centre section and baby blue accents – almost like a Gulf-themed watch. The bold colour scheme continues on the strap, in baby blue leather with orange stitching. The Classic version is… more classic, thanks to a timeless combination of a white metal case with a subtly sunray-brushed salmon dial, paired with silver-toned accents. On both, time is read by classic Grönefeld heat-blued hands and diamond-cut, high-polished applied markers. Contrary to the Manueel One, the Horologium replaces the centre seconds with a small seconds counter, using a raised diamond-cut plateau with polished, circular brushed and sandblasted finishes – in a style first introduced on the Moment Meter.
Inside the case and now visible under a see-through caseback is a hand-wound version of the La Joux-Perret G100. This movement, usually seen in automatic versions, beats at 4Hz and stores about 60 hours of power reserve. It is decorated with Geneva stripes, diamond-cut bevels and blued screws. And while the caseback of the Classic version is free of any printed text, the Quirky edition bears the inscription “Zoals het klokje thuis tikt, tikt het nergens” (“home sweet home” or “there’s no place like home”, in Dutch).
Released as a limited edition of 188 pieces per variant, the Grone Oldenzaal Horologium Quirky and Classic will be available for order on 13 August 2026, at 3PM Central Europe time, from the brand’s website. Deliveries are expected from mid-September onwards. The watch is priced at EUR 2,390 excluding VAT.
