The New, Blue-Toned Greubel Forsey Balancier 3 in Titanium
An evolution of the brand’s most "accessible" concept, now defined by a soft blue colour, new textures and deeper contrasts.
Greubel Forsey has always been synonymous with highly complex, intensely finished movements presented as three-dimensional mechanical sculptures. In recent years, the brand has explored a slightly more “restrained” yet modern approach with models like the Balancier S and, more recently, the Balancier 3 introduced in 2023. The time-only Balancier 3 retained the brand’s signature depth and finishing, while focusing on structural clarity. This new edition does not alter the concept; it changes the presentation, and that changes the watch.
The case remains faithful to the Convexe design introduced with the brand’s sportier pieces, featuring sculpted lugs and an engraved caseband. Crafted in titanium, it measures 41.5mm across the caseband, with a wider 43.6mm bezel and a height of 13.35mm (13.55mm including the domed crystals). Both the sapphire crystals and the case profile follow the wrist, reducing the perceived size despite the dimensions. The bezel, with its variable geometry, alternates polished and straight-grained finishes. The titanium crown, polished and straight-grained, is decorated with the GF logo. Water-resistance is 50m.
On the dial side, the Balancier 3 remains an exercise in openness and legibility through structure. The luminous hands of the hours and minutes are positioned atop a suspended central bridge, arched across the movement. On the flange, a wide blue hour ring with an engraved, lacquered minute track hosts three-dimensional hour indices, treated with Super-LumiNova. The large balance wheel continues to dominate the composition, while the small seconds are indicated by a rotating disc with a fixed red triangular marker.
While the balance and barrel bridges retain their polished titanium surfaces, the large central bridge introduces a new, hand-applied, frosted finish with a steel brush to create a pronounced matte texture for contrast. Combined with multiple hues of blue across the movement, this new version of the Balancier 3 offers a more graphic, high-contrast composition. It’s a subtle change in concept, but a significant one in execution.
The mechanics remain unchanged. The hand-wound movement is built with a large 12.6mm variable-inertia balance with six gold screws, beating at 21,600 vibrations/hour. It is powered by twin fast-rotating barrels delivering a 72-hour chronometric power reserve. The architecture is deliberately open, with 282 components and 43 jewels, including gold chatons. The power reserve indicator is displayed on the movement side, visible through the display caseback alongside frosted bridges and a gold plate engraved with the individual limitation number.
The watch is worn on a textured rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp; a three-row titanium bracelet with fine adjustment is available as an option. This new edition of the Balancier 3 is limited to 22 pieces. Pricing remains in line with the collection’s positioning and is expected to be around CHF 170,000 (to be confirmed).
