GoS occupies a very special space on the independent watchmaking scene. The Swedish atelier is one of the very few to truly master Damascus steel, not just as a decorative element, but as a material explored from forging to finishing. From early creations to the original Vinternätter (Winter Nights) of 2013, and later evolutions and new releases, the brand’s foundations are Nordic culture, metallurgy, and highly tactile craftsmanship. The original Winter Nights was a milestone, not only as a collector-driven subscription watch but also as one of the first to bring Damascus steel into the case. With the new Winter Nights III, GoS revisits this important model, refining its construction while introducing a new combination of materials, dark stainless Damascus steel and 18k Swedish gold.

The 41.5mm case, to put it mildly, is uber-cool. The central case ring is made from stainless Damascus steel, treated with a bonded patina developed in-house. This darkened surface is structurally integrated into the steel, ensuring long-term durability and resistance to wear, with a deep, almost organic texture, reminiscent of weathered Viking artefacts. Framing this are hand-finished elements in 18k Swedish gold, bezel, caseback and lugs, creating a strong contrast between shadow and light. The case looks sharp and complex, but remains wearable, tapering from 12.1mm at its thickest point to 8mm at the edges. Water resistance is 50m, with sapphire crystals front and back.

The dial is forged by bladesmith Conny Persson, the man involved in the latest GoS creations. The Damascus steel base features an evolved “wildflower” pattern, with organic lines and layered depth. In the GoS atelier, Sjögren machines, etches and hand-finishes each dial through an iterative process of polishing and oxidation, revealing contrast within the material. No two dials are identical. Surrounding it, a two-part chapter ring combines an anthracite base with polished markers and an upper ring in 4N gold. Central hours and minutes hands, styled as Viking arrowheads, are paired with a small seconds at 6 o’clock, shaped as the GoS triskele, a recurring symbol in the brand’s designs.

The Winter Nights III is powered by a movement developed with Schwarz Etienne and finished to GoS specifications. The automatic calibre features a micro-rotor with a Damascus steel counterweight. Beating at 21,600 vibrations/hour, it delivers an 86-hour power reserve. The construction is clean and traditional, with hand-polished bevels, a separate escape wheel bridge and subtle engravings, including the triskele motif.

The Winter Nights III is worn on a grained Nordic moose leather strap, closed with an 18k gold pin buckle. Limited to just 12 pieces, with extremely low annual production, delivered in a handcrafted hardwood box, each watch is made to order and individually configured, including client approval of the Damascus dial. Price is EUR 38,000 (excl. VAT). For more information, please visit GoSWatches.com.
