Glossary

Complication in which a hammer strikes a gong within a watch movement when a pusher or slider is activated, setting off the audible indication of time by first striking the hours and then quarters.

A battery operated movement where a quartz crystal, shaped as a miniature tuning fork, vibrates at a frequency of 32,768Hz. A circuit translates the exacting vibrations into an electric pulse, one per second. Quartz movements are much more accurate, reliable and cheaper than mechanical counterparts.
