Glossary

The modern system of mechanical watches where the winding stem both winds the watch and sets the time, date and other functions depending on the position it’s in. The stem is pulled into different positions to directly interact with specific gear trains in the movement.

A Swiss shock protection system made by the Parechoc company, which protects the balance staff from breaking. A golden spring clip is seen around a ruby at the top of the balance, which is a spring-mounted jewel setting that allows for some critical movement during a shock.

A pattern of lines or grooves milled into a crown to provide grip. Knurled patterns are also used as decorative elements on watch cases, such as a knurled bezel.
