The Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph XV Limited Edition
A monochromatic version of the brand's TV-shaped watch for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Quite a radical departure from the usual classic German style of the Pano and Senator collection by Glashütte Original, the Seventies range, now exclusively available as a chronograph, is characterised by its TV-shaped case and integrated bracelet, but also by a great audacity in colours – which reflects the era after which the watch is named. But today, it’s all about monochromatism and a great classic of the chronograph category, the reverse-panda dial. Following the panda-style Seventies Chronograph X for the American market, GO comes back with its mirror image, the Seventies Chronograph XV Limited Edition for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The overall structure of the watch remains intact and is identical to all editions we’ve seen in recent years. As such, the Seventies Chronograph XV, the 15th limited edition of the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, retains its 40mm x 40mm TV-shaped case made of brushed and polished steel. The watch is relatively compact on the wrist, with a 46.4mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of 14mm. Water-resistance is rated at a comfortable 100m.
What matters most for this edition is the dial, which opts for a classic matt black lacquered base with silver galvanised totalisers – making it a so-called reverse panda dial. All the rest is classic GO, with white gold hands and applied hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova. The display combines great legibility and numerous functions, with central hours and minutes, a sub-dial for the running seconds and the power reserve indicator, the signature Panorama Date with two non-overlapping discs, and a chronograph with central seconds, 30-minute counter and an arched window for the 12-hour totaliser.
Inside the case of the Seventies Chronograph XV is the in-house, integrated automatic flyback chronograph calibre 37-02. The movement is finished with Glashütte stripes, a skeletonised rotor with a double G symbol and polished bevels. As an integrated chronograph movement, the crown and pushers are on the same level, which nicely balances the look of the case. It packs 70 hours of power reserve and features a silicon hairspring.
Worn on an integrated bracelet with fine adjustment clasp, the Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph XV is a limited edition of 100 pieces, now available exclusively from boutiques and retailers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is priced at EUR 17,100. For more information, please consult glashuette-original.com.
