The Tissot T-Race series holds a prominent position in Tissot’s catalogue, a testament to the brand’s history in sports timing, including motor racing. Tissot has been the official MotoGP timekeeper since 2001, and colleagues report Tissot’s T-Race watches are frequently spotted at race events globally, underlining their association with the fast-paced world of racing. Special Tissot T-Race MotoGP models are offered to enthusiasts immersed in racing as limited editions, with quantities limited to thousands – for the fans are many. In line with this tradition, the newly unveiled 2024 Tissot T-Race MotoGP Chronograph with mechanical movement commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the competition and is restricted to just 2024 units. This watch pays homage to the daring speed demons who exhilarate the sport; we delve into the details of this particular timepiece dedicated to the thrill of speed.

Behold the exquisite beast, the Tissot T-Race MotoGP 75th Anniversary Chronograph 2024 Limited Edition – a stunning reflection of the powerful machines that continually inspire this remarkable series. With its multifaceted design, the robust stainless steel case commands attention with dimensions of 45mm in diameter and a substantial 14.79mm thickness. To embody the spirit of motorcycle engineering, the black PVD bezel mirrors the details of a brake disc. At the same time, the case’s midsection artfully replicates the cooling fins found on motorcycle engines.

Adding to the aggressive allure are the crown and pushers for the chronograph and date correction (at 10 o’clock), designed with a fierce aesthetic that unmistakably pays homage to the adrenaline-fueled world of motorsports. In essence, the case of this timepiece serves as a visual symphony of motorsport references, capturing the essence of speed and power in every detail.

The multi-level dial of the Tissot T-Race MotoGP 75th Anniversary Chronograph 2024 Limited Edition celebrates the MotoGP colours – blue and red – and captures the essence of the sport’s technical prowess. The sloping inner bezel accommodates the tachymeter scale, transitioning to the minutes/seconds ring. This ring is aggressively segmented by prominent trapezoid metallic hour indices, each filled with Super-LumiNova. The narrower ends of these indices, closer to the centre, guide the eye toward the area of the dial, where all the crucial functions are housed.

At 9 o’clock, a dedicated subdial keeps track of running seconds, while the totalizers at 3 and 6 handle the chronograph functions, measuring elapsed minutes (up to 30) and hours (up to 12), respectively. Notably, the central chronograph seconds hand is boldly red, in harmony with the small hand for running seconds – an odd choice, considering the typically uniform finish of all chronograph hands. This departure may have been a deliberate decision to ensure the unobstructed visibility of the red 75 for the 75th Anniversary of the MotoGP logo incorporated into the 30-minute counter. The date window finds its place at 4:30; a curious touch is the semi-transparent base of the dial – while the movement remains concealed, the discernible date disc adds a subtle layer of depth. The large central hour and minute hands, generously coated with Super-LumiNova, prioritize functionality, ensuring effortless time reading, day or night.

Powering the new Tissot T-Race MotoGP 75th Anniversary Chronograph is the automatic Valjoux 05 series movement, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour and a robust 60-hour power reserve. This movement is equipped with a Nivachron hairspring and represents an enhancement of the ETA Valjoux 7753 derived from the renowned 7750, with the minute counter relocated from 12 to 3 o’clock. For enthusiasts eager to peek inside, the display caseback offers a glimpse of the calibre, presenting a utilitarian aesthetic with modest finishing, accented by a skeletonized rotor.

Adorning the wrist, the 2024 Tissot T-Race MotoGP Chronograph features a textured blue rubber strap, an exclusive “corporate” colour of the 75th Anniversary of MotoGP. The strap is secured with a pin buckle. Delivered in a distinctive mini helmet packaging rather than a conventional box, this limited edition timepiece is priced at CHF 1,815.
