Cushion cases, GMTs, three-handers, divers… British independent watchmaker Farer is doing a bit of everything. The brand also likes to revisit its collections, as seen with the updated field watches in 2024. After those military-inspired pieces, it was only a matter of time before Farer returned to its pilot watches, first introduced in 2020. Their earlier pilot watches, like the Bradfield and Morgan, brought in a mix of colour while staying practical with steel cases and anti-magnetic Faraday cages. Now, four new watches make up the all-new Series II Pilot collection, moving to titanium cases. This facelift brings the weight down and also puts these watches more in line with what you would expect from a reliable tool watch.

The Curtis, Curtis Eastern Arabic, Barnwell, and Hewlett make up the new Series II Pilot collection. Each is built around a new 40mm grade 2 titanium case with 43mm lug-to-lug and a thickness of 10.9mm. The cases have a bead-blasted finish with a brushed bezel, and are water-resistant to 100 metres. An oversized conical crown makes adjustments easy, even with gloves, while a domed sapphire crystal with multiple layers of anti-reflective coating improves visibility. There is also a soft iron Faraday cage inside to protect the movement from magnetic fields up to 500 Gauss. The watches are paired with either leather or fabric straps, depending on the model.

Each model in the Series II Pilot takes a slightly different approach to the dial while sticking to classic pilot watch layouts. The Curtis stands out with a segmented, blue-grey guilloché-style dial with pale yellow lume, while the Eastern Arabic version, limited to 100 pieces, swaps in Arabic numerals. Following a Type B layout, the Barnwell shows a large minute track and a smaller inner hour scale, finished in bronze tones with hints of blue and orange. The Hewlett is the cleanest of the lot, with a deep ink blue dial, bold markers, and strong lume. These are still very much Farer in that sense, using colour to set each model apart without overdoing it.

Inside the Series II Pilot watches is the Sellita SW300-1 automatic movement in Elaboré grade, an alternative to the ETA 2892 base movement. It runs at 28,800 vibrations/hour (4Hz) and offers a 56-hour power reserve, while also being slimmer than the more commonly used SW200-1. The movement is adjusted for accuracy in multiple positions for everyday reliability.

The Farer Pilot Collection Series II is priced at EUR 1,555, positioning it in a segment where the combination of titanium construction, anti-magnetic protection, and varied dial styles creates a well-rounded package.
