German brand DUG introduces a more compact version of its accessible Purist, with two dial designs, three colours and a choice of date or no-date configurations.
Founded by Toni Brodführer, DUG Glashütte focuses on producing watches in accordance with the requirements of the Glashütte designation of origin, and the inaugural Purist was conceived as a straightforward proposition built around the traditions of Saxon watchmaking. The brand is now expanding the collection with a smaller case. The new Purist 37 retains the original’s essential construction but reduces the case from 40mm to 37mm and broadens the range of configurations. Buyers can choose from multiple variants of Purist 37: Typ 1 or Typ 2, date or no date, three dial colours, with either a leather strap or steel bracelet.
The Purist 37 comes in a three-piece stainless-steel case featuring a diamond-shaped fluted crown, with brushed and polished surfaces, measuring 37mm in diameter, 10.35mm thick, and 43.9mm from lug to lug. A slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial, while a sapphire crystal caseback lets you view the movement. Water resistance is 100m.
The dial offers multiple choices. The Purist 37 Typ 1 uses baton hour markers for a restrained, minimalist appearance. The Typ 2 features more traditional Arabic numerals. Both versions can be ordered with or without a neatly integrated date indication at 6 o’clock, its disc colour-matched to the corresponding dial. Three colours are available: Onyx Black, Moon White and Royal Blue. Each uses a textured surface with applied markers and luminous hands and indices, filled with Super-LumiNova BG W9. The date option is available on all models.
The Purist 37 is powered by the DUG 200 automatic, based on the Sellita SW 200 (an alternative to the ETA 2824), finished and decorated in Glashütte, Saxony. The movement receives hand-applied Glashütte perlage, finished bridges and plates, and screws with their characteristic blue surface treatment. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the openworked rotor is manufactured in Glashütte and finished with 24k gold plating, with a tungsten weight. The DUG 200 operates at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offers 40 hours of power reserve.
The Purist 37 is available on a genuine buffalo leather strap or a stainless-steel bracelet with fine adjustment. Both use a quick-release system. The leather strap measures 18mm at the lugs and tapers to 16mm, with different colours available to complement the dial.
