A shaped watch born from architectural thinking, designed for black-tie evenings, as a modern classic of quiet sophistication.

Dutch watchmaker de Rijke & Co. is among those that get noticed by thinking differently. The brand’s debut Amalfi collection, launched in 2019, was built around a clever rotatable centre case inside an outer cradle, a concept that fused functionality and design ingenuity. For its second collection, the brand steps away from case mechanics and into sculpture. The new Capri is all about form, proportion, and atmosphere, a shaped dress watch conceived for elegant evenings and quiet confidence, taking inspiration from the island it’s named after: a place of cinematic light, architecture, and timeless style.

The stainless steel case for the new Capri collection is compact, to say the least. It measures 28.5mm in width and 38mm in length, and just 6.5mm in thickness. It’s a new kind of minimalism for de Rijke & Co: sleek, uninterrupted, and beautifully restrained. Traditional lugs are replaced by integrated sculptural extensions, giving the watch a sense of unity and flow. Even the caseback screws are hidden behind the strap to preserve the seamless geometry. The watch is robust enough for daily wear, with 30m water resistance and a 1mm-thick curved sapphire crystal that recalls the bowed glass of vintage shopfronts and mid-century architecture.

The dial continues this sculptural theme. Rather than being flat, its edges curve gently to follow the crystal’s contour, creating a play of light and depth. The watch is available in three versions – black onyx stone, black aventurine, or Capri Blue lacquer – with all surfaces polished to add refinement to the display. The Capri Blue variant, with its vivid hue, is distinguished by applied baton indices, a sleek handset, and a recessed, snailed small seconds subdial with a red hand. The other two variants are hours and minutes only, with no hour markers and openworked hands.

The Capri series is powered by the La Joux-Perret D100 (small seconds) or D101 (hours and minutes), a hand-wound calibre that represents a refined alternative to the classic Peseux 7001. Slim, nicely finished, and reliable, it perfectly complements the Capri’s elegant proportions. With its fine decoration and engineering, the D100 lends mechanical substance to the watch’s artistic design. Operating frequency is 21,600 vibrations/hour, with a 50-hour power reserve (an 8-hour upgrade compared to the 7001).

Each Capri model is fitted with a tapered calf leather strap (24mm to 18mm) that integrates flush with the case. The watch is a limited edition of 50 pieces per dial version, priced at EUR 2,195 (excl. VAT), with deliveries expected in March 2026. More information at derijkeandco.com.

  1. Looks like a worthy alternative to a tank.
I am partial to the aventurine glass dial version.
