The Ever-Shifting Colours of the new Chronoswiss ReSec Snake Manufacture
A classic regulator dial with retrograde seconds that will stop you in your tracks.

Chronoswiss, founded in 1983 by the late Gerd R. Lang, has always been associated with regulators. Following the brand’s acquisition by Oliver Ebstein and its relocation from Munich to Lucerne, additional complications, including the ReSec, a retrograde seconds indication, joined the lineup. Its combination of old-school decorative techniques with kinetic displays and some of the liveliest colours in the watchmaking world has helped Chronoswiss stand out – and how! – from the crowd. The latest Chronoswiss ReSec Snake is yet another audacious blend of heritage and mesmerising colour.
Although the five inaugural models of 2019 toyed with colours, the (Open Gear) ReSec has progressively embraced louder, brighter colours and contrasts, culminating with the trilogy released a year ago. The Open Gear component of the name refers to the exposed and skeletonised train wheel bridges that appear in the hours disc and which are screwed to the dial. Maintaining a classic regulator display, the single central hand indicates the minutes on the periphery, the hours are in a sub-dial at noon, and the retrograde seconds in an arc spanning the dial from 4 to 8 o’clock.
The Chronoswiss ReSec Snake is infused with colour from head to tail, starting with the 42mm titanium case with its iridescent PVD coating that shifts from emerald-green to turquoise, depending on the light. With a thickness of 14.2mm, the drum-shaped case flaunts the classic oversized onion crown and the knurling on the top and bottom sections sandwiching the middle case. Fitted with sapphire crystals front and back, the case is water-resistant to 100 metres.
Once again, Chronoswiss employs traditional hand-guilloché to create the sumptuous background of the dial, but combines it with an iridescent green CVD coating. The raised blue disc for the hours at noon features luminescent indicators, matching the suspended minutes ring on the periphery with its circular luminescent ceramic pegs at five-minute intervals. A wide, arching bridge, indicated by a bright orange hand, supports the retrograde minutes track at 6 o’clock.
Powered by a La Joux-Perret base movement, the automatic calibre C.6005 runs at 4Hz and delivers a 55-hour power reserve. Visible on the reverse, the openworked rotor with parallel bridges offers a view of the radial Côtes de Genève on the bridges.
The Chronoswiss ReSec Snake Manufacture is delivered with a white rubber strap. It is a limited edition of 100 pieces and retails for CHF 14,900. More information at chronoswiss.com.
