The Chronoswiss Pulse One, a Brand-New Sports Collection in Titanium

Of course a regulator watch, the Pulse One however marks a new era for Chronoswiss.

Founded in 1983 by Gerd R. Lang in München, Germany, Chronoswiss quickly became the main advocate of the regulator display – it was, in fact, the first brand to release a serially-produced regulator wristwatch in 1987. Since then, the brand has launched watches with such a display in practically every possible form, ranging from traditional and elegant models with guilloché dials, to bold and colourful watches with additional complications. For its third participation at Watches and Wonders, the brand has decided to strike hard by introducing an unprecedented model, to be seen as the bold next step in the brand’s evolution. This is the Chronoswiss Pulse One, a full-titanium regulator with an integrated bracelet and a sportier, yet sleeker look.

While available in practically all materials and colours, in traditional or audacious versions, with additional complications or classic regulator display, almost all watches from Chronoswiss have shared an identical shape since the brand’s early stages; a central cylindrical container framed by two knurled bezel (top and bottom), with straight lugs, rounded tips with screwed strap holders and an onion crown. At this stage, I’m certain that we can call this a signature design… Unless things change, which is happening now, with the Chronoswiss Pulse One.

Change? Yes, but not entirely. The watch may be new and may feel different, but it remains equipped with some of the classic traits of a Chronoswiss. This collection, however, marks a new era for the brand and frees itself from certain constraints of the traditional design… Starting with the lugs. Indeed, the Pulse One, a full grade 5 titanium watch, opts for a sporty style with the bracelet seamlessly integrated with the middle case. In the same vein, while the bezel remains textured, the knurled pattern becomes partial and far more discreet – basically now only notches on the periphery. Satin finish and sandblasted, the case is surely more streamlined, sleeker and more modern, with an edgier vibe.

Continuing on this trend, the onion crown – a beacon of Chronoswiss identity – remains present but now sits flush and is protected by lateral guards flowing with the side of the case. A watch that can easily fall into the sporty category, the Pulse One is relatively compact in its dimensions, measuring 41mm in diameter and 12.75mm in thickness with a pleasant sub-47mm total length. Water-resistance is rated at a comfortable 100m. Sapphire crystals frame the watch.

A Chronoswiss wouldn’t be a Chronoswiss without a regulator display and the Pulse One is no exception to the rule. Following recent creations of the brand, it relies on a three-dimensional version of this display, shared with the ReSec Manufacture models. It thus combines a central minute, a raised hour counter at 12 o’clock and a playful retrograde seconds counter at 6 o’clock, jumping back every 30 seconds. Just like for the case, the overall dial feels familiar but sleeker, with sandblasted surfaces and 3D-applied markers, either on the hour sub-dial or the angled minute flange.

Two versions of the Chronoswiss Pulse One are presented. First, the Pulse One Sand with a sandblasted galvanic 4N gold base and blued hands and CVD-coated indices. Second, the Pulse One Blue with a CVD-coated base and rhodium-plated hands and markers.

Inside the case is the Chronoswiss Manufacture Calibre C. 6001, a movement that’s close to what ticks in the ReSec Manufacture. It consists of an automatic base movement made by La Joux-Perret with an in-house module for the regulator display. This movement beats at 4Hz and stores 55h of power reserve. It is finely decorated with ruthenium-plated bridges and plates, bevelled angles, new hollowed ratchet and barrel wheel and radiating Geneva stripes.

As said, one of the most important evolutions concerns the absence of lugs and the transition to an integrated bracelet that fuses with the case. It is also executed in grade 5 titanium and features a concealed butterfly clasp. The Chronoswiss Pulse One Sand and Blue are limited editions of 100 pieces each. The price is EUR 12,900, CHF 11,800 or USD 13,300.

  1. For this money I would expect retrograde seconde morte complication.
