The C by Romain Gauthier Platinum Edition Bracelet Joins the Heritage Collection

For those who felt the C-series missed a truly hefty piece, here´s a full-platinum edition of the distinctive sports watch.

This summer, indie watchmaker Romain Gauthier announced the end of the titanium-case-rubber-strap editions of its contemporary, aesthetically and horologically pleasing C by Romain Gauthier watch line, which was first launched in 2021 as the Continuum and now comprises two sub-collections. The Freedom collection is reserved for titanium-cased watches on straps and titanium bracelets, while the Heritage collection offers timepieces in platinum. Until now, the two platinum pieces, featuring a matte grey or a matte blue dial, were paired with rubber straps exclusively. Today, the brand reveals the new C by Romain Gauthier reference in platinum, with a platinum bracelet. Heavy luxury…

The distinctive case design of the C by Romain Gauthier series, be it a titanium or a platinum edition, incorporates a unique bezel made by machining a circular shape before cutting six facets into the bevelled edge, an exhibition caseback with a similar to the bezel look, and a crown for winding and setting the watch positioned at 2 o´clock. The applied finishes and dimensions are consistent across the current references; the case measures 41mm in diameter, is 9.55mm thick, and has a little less than 48mm lug-to-lug. Front and back, the sapphire crystal boasts interior AR coating.

The C by Romain Gauthier Platinum Edition Bracelet introduces a new dial crafted from white gold. It receives a hand-engraved bouchardé texture – like the Titanium Edition Five – and then it is treated with light blue PVD to achieve a trendy “ice blue” colour to enhance the textures and light reflection. The off-centred layout with the lume-filled hour and minute hands, Roman numerals at cardinal positions and tapering, and varying length indices, all made of white gold, presents a familiar image, with the small seconds at 7 o’clock with 5-second intervals indicated by tapering black lines.

The C by Romain Gauthier Platinum Edition Bracelet is powered by the in-house hand-wound movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations/hour and boasting 60 hours of autonomy. This movement comprises 154 components made of white gold, steel, brass and German silver and showcases Romain Gauthier´s signature decorations on the bridges – bouchardé-engraved, hand-frosted mainplate, gears and ratchet wheel with circular, bevelled spokes circular-grained, with high polish applied to the snail cam, the click and hallmark S-slot-head screws.

The new C by Romain Gauthier model´s weight with the platinum bracelet and its integrated platinum folding clasp, also in platinum, is a hefty 340 grams; the price is not an easy load either, at CHF 118,000 without taxes. For more, visit romaingauthier.com.

  1. Gauthier has lost his way. His C series is a far cry from the HM, HMS, Insight Microrotor and Logical Ones. Too many different editions of the C have been released and the pricing on this platinum piece is out of control. Unfortunately, the numerous C editions have become nothing but a cash grab. This is what happens when a brand ramps production. Very sad.

  2. This is clearly a money grab and Gautheir lost his way, nothing that a machine can’t do for a buck fifty.

  3. First, kudos for quoting the weight, this is still too rare on specialized watch websites. Second, holy moly, it is heavier than the solid gold deepsea which is quite a statement!
