In 2021, independent watchmaker Romain Gauthier launched the first edition of the C sports watch, marking the genesis of a watch and calibre born from over 16 years of expertise. This remarkable timepiece laid the foundation for future creations, showcasing the brand’s evolution and manufacturing prowess. Fast forward to today, and Romain Gauthier proudly presents the fifth iteration of the C, and the defining feature of this edition is the captivating champagne-coloured, hand-engraved dial, adding an exclusive touch to the familiar and original design.

The new C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition Five maintains the essence of the Grade 5 titanium case, measuring 41mm x 9.55mm, with lugs to lugs spanning 49.5mm. The titanium bezel keeps an eye-catching geometric profile with six distinct facets. The crown, cleverly positioned at 2 o’clock, frees up wrist movements and introduces a rubber ring for enhanced grip, harmonizing with burgundy elements on the dial. The display case back mirrors the faceted design found in the bezel, creating a cohesive visual appeal. The one-piece caseband and lugs blend satin and polished finishes, emphasizing craftsmanship.

The genius design of the C by Romain Gauthier series comes to life once again with the new dial, showcasing a titanium, champagne-coloured surface with a protective layer against UV rays. The hand-engraved pattern creates a play of light and reflection, adding depth and uniqueness to the familiar layout. The off-centred hour and minute hands, varying lengths of hour markers, and burgundy-coloured lines indicating 5-second intervals on the small seconds at 7 o’clock contribute to the visual allure. The three-dimensional hands, numerals, and applied hour markers made from 18k white gold are filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility.

The manual-wound calibre with a 60-hour power reserve is visible through the display case back. Finger bridges made from Grade 5 titanium showcase contemporary interpretations, with various finishes and a ‘stepped’ shape providing a flowing visual effect. The movement mainplate beneath is hand-frosted, and details like the screws with signature S-slot heads (also used to secure the caseback), among other adornments, add a touch of refinement. The regulator features the distinctive Romain Gauthier balance wheel.

The rubber strap (burgundy or grey) with a titanium pin buckle seamlessly follows the form of the angular lugs and rounded caseband, creating a continuous, organic extension of the case. The C by Romain Gauthier Titanium Edition Five is offered as a limited edition of 38, with “1 of 38” engraved on each movement, and the price is CHF 39,000 without taxes. 1. Romain Gauthier is making too many of these limited editions that are exactly the same as the previous one, but for a small change in colour. This is disappointing and bad value for collectors that decided early on to support him.
