The Striking Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Sejima (Live Pics & Price)

The Japanese architect shines a new light on the Octo Finissimo.

The Octo Finissimo series is one of the most striking collections of the last decade. With it, Bulgari has secured an impressive series of world records for thinness. But more than anything else, the Octo Finissimo is a style statement. Fabrizio Buonamassa and the Bulgari team have created a modern icon, whose ultra-thin profile broke into the market in muted monochrome attire. Many iterations of the model have been released over the years. On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, Bulgari unveils an exceptional limited edition created with Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima.

Winner of the 2010 Pritzker Prize and of the Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2004, Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima is known for her clean modernist designs. Her use of materials, contrasts, light, transparency, and the play between the visible and the invisible are defining elements of her works. Unveiled on the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, her collaboration with Bulgari has given birth to a striking, exceptional take on the Octo Finissimo Automatic. And it is quite mesmerising in the metal.

This Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Sejima stands out with original plays of light created by an entirely polished case and bracelet and a mirror dial paired with a dot pattern metallised onto the sapphire crystal. All of this creates beautiful, ever-changing perceptions. The dot pattern often feels invisible but is really intriguing.

At 40mm in diameter, the stainless steel case is based on the S version of the model, meaning that it is fitted with a screw-down crown and is water-resistant to a comfortable 100m depth. Its architectural design and slim profile – only 6.40mm in height – add to the special feel of the watch on the wrist. Turning the watch over, the exhibition caseback features Sejima’s signature and the limited-edition caption. It also reveals the ultra-thin automatic calibre BVL138 wound by a micro-rotor. 36.60mm in diameter, and 2.23mm in height, it beats at 3Hz frequency and boasts 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

  1. This dude probably traveled too much with public transportation vehicles that have their windows covered by commercials.
