Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Full Lum

Fitting a circle within a square is no simple task… And when you add the fundamental elements of a dive watch to the mix, including the required rotating bezel, this makes the task even more complex. Yet, this is what Bell & Ross has done with its BR 03-92 Diver, successfully mixing the iconic BR case with diving features. Today, the brand adds its ‘LUM’ concept to this watch, with the new Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Full Lum… Shine a light!

Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Full Lum

Bell & Ross has a history of diver-oriented timepieces that dates back to 1997, with the Hydromax and its oil-filled 11,100-metre water-resistant case, followed by a dedicated collection named BR02, and knows a thing or two about diving instruments. However, in 2017, the challenge was to adapt the elements of a dive watch to the brand’s signature design, the ‘circle within a square’ case with 4 functional screws. This resulted in the BR 03-92 Diver, one of the brand’s most accomplished pieces later derived in multiple editions, such as bronze, steel-and-blue or black ceramic.

The latest edition in the range is the Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver ‘Full Lum’ which adapts one of the brand’s concepts that focuses on legibility, day and night – and that means relying massively on the use of Super-LumiNova, and not only for the markers.

Before we move to what really matters here, note that this watch, except its material, is identical to the previous steel BR 03-92 Diver. As such, the case measures 42mm x 42mm and is crafted in matte black ceramic. It is equipped with a screw-down crown, a closed caseback and a sapphire crystal, and is water-resistant to 300m. Note that the watch is a proper diver’s instrument, according to the international standard ISO 6425.

The bezel is also new and is made of matte black ceramic too. It is unidirectional and features a seamlessly integrated 60-minute scale that matches the dial in colour. It is made from Super-LumiNova and glows in the day and at night. The watch is powered by a solid automatic movement based on the Sellita SW 300-1 architecture. It is worn on a black textured rubber strap with a PVD-coated pin buckle and an additional ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric is also included.

Now to the pièce de résistance: the dial. There are two faces to a coin and there are two faces to this dial. At first, it appears identical to all other BR 03-92 Divers; same indexes and hands, same display. The dial is light green during the day, with blackened indexes and hands for a strong contrast – all filled with Super-LumiNova C3. The magic happens at night, as the dial is entirely covered in Super-LumiNova C5, making the black markers highly visible and the watch fully luminescent.
