Following its Jurassic Watch editions, a series inspired by Spielberg’s cult dinosaur movie, Awake has just released the second chapter in its Tribute to the Seventh Art series, The Deadly Watch. This time, we’re looking at a bold limited edition, based on the classic Son Mai platform and inspired by the equally cult Tarantino movie Kill Bill Vol. 1. With only 88 numbered pieces – a playful homage to the film’s infamous Crazy 88 deadly squad – this creation blends cinematic nostalgia with Vietnamese craftsmanship.

At the heart of this cinema-inspired watch lies a handcrafted Son Mai lacquer dial, produced in Awake’s Hanoi workshop using traditional Vietnamese techniques. Master lacquerers developed exclusive pigments to reinterpret the film’s iconic visual language: vibrant yellow for purity and resilience, red for rage and vengeance, and deep black for mystery and emotional darkness. Each dial requires nearly ten hours of meticulous handwork, resulting in a unique, light-catching surface enhanced by Awake’s luminous Super-LumiNova signature, framing the hands and applied indexes.

The Awake Son Mai The Deadly Watch’s aesthetic details deepen the tribute. A pair of miniature katanas appears at 6 o’clock; the logo adopts a spaghetti-western typeface reminiscent of Tarantino’s cinematic roots; and the caseback is engraved with symbolic references, including the famous quote “I’m gonna kill Bill”, four M16 bullets, and the “Crazy 88” numbering.

Inside beats the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre, offering 68 hours of power reserve and a custom tungsten rotor. Completing the ensemble is a handcrafted leather strap inspired by Beatrix Kiddo’s iconic yellow-and-black outfit, in matte black Barenia calfskin lined with yellow calfskin, with yellow and red topstitching. The case is identical to other editions of the Son Mai, measuring 39mm and made out of recycled stainless steel.

In a final nod to fans, two of the future owners will receive a Golden Ticket, being selected to win an exact replica of The Bride’s legendary Hattori Hanzo katana. A limited edition of 88 pieces, in reference to the cult fight scene in Kill Bill Vol. 1, the Awake Son Mai “The Deadly Watch” is available from the brand’s website for EUR 1,650 excluding tax.

  1. I hate Tarantino and his tasteless pornification of violence, interspersed with copycat scenes. This watch is cool tho.

  2. Don’t much care for the Kill Bill narrative but the watch is a breath of fresh air.
Love the look and the dial.
