Awake brings three new moods to its handmade Vietnamese lacquer dials, and the colour combinations inspired by nature are looking good.
Awake is adding three new versions to its Son Mai collection, with Frosted Leaf Storm, Blood Moon, and Lagoon variants. The Frosted Leaf first appeared in 2025 with blue, green, and moka dials, followed by the Royal Red and Royal Blue versions, each with its own take on the lacquer work. It also gave the French brand a new way to explore the Asian métiers d’art tradition, combining Vietnamese Son Mai lacquerwork with silver leaf for its dials. The new watches also use the 38mm case introduced earlier this year, making them slightly smaller and slimmer than the original 39mm Frosted Leaf.
The steel case of these new Son Mai Frosted Leaf watches now measures 38mm across, with a 44.75mm lug-to-lug and 11.5mm thickness. It features polished surfaces, satin-finished sides, a slightly curved sapphire crystal, and a screw-down crown and caseback. Water resistance is now rated at 100m. The new watches also get Awake’s new handwritten logo, which goes well with the whole handmade nature of the dials.
The Son Mai Frosted Leaf Storm goes for black and orange, while the Blood Moon version pairs deep red and black. Then there is the Son Mai Frosted Leaf Lagoon that uses layers of blue and green. Each dial combines multiple layers of lacquer, natural pigments, and pure silver leaf in a process that takes around 15 hours to complete. The hands and indexes combine Super-LumiNova BGW9 with polished, brushed, and faceted steel, allowing the lume to glow from underneath rather than simply sitting on top.
All three watches use the three-hand automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement, running at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering 68 hours of power reserve. The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback, where Awake has added a custom-made tungsten rotor with polished, brushed, and bead-blasted finishes.
Each watch comes on a handmade Maison Bouveret nubuck calfskin strap, matched to its dial colour, with a rubberised calfskin lining and a new micro-adjustable ardillon buckle. These Frosted Leaf models are part of the standard collection, with around 100 pieces produced each year. The Son Mai Frosted Leaf Storm, Blood Moon, and Lagoon are each priced at EUR 2,820, including taxes and shipping, with deliveries scheduled for the last week of September 2026.
