The New 34mm Alpina Heritage Tropic-Proof Handwinding
Vintage-inspired designs are aplenty these days, yet Alpina manages to get its recent release noticed.

Alpina celebrated the brand´s 140th anniversary in 2023 by launching a new Heritage collection. Until now, the collection comprised the round-shaped Automatic, the Carrée Automatic, the Diver 300 Heritage model, and a funky Startimer Pilot with bumper movement. This year for Watches and Wonders, Alpina added a manually wound model to the line-up, a compact, good-looking three-hander named Tropic-Proof.
For this lovely retro-inspired release, Alpina has revisited its 1960s archives to recreate the original Tropic-Proof watch faithfully. The original model, introduced in that era, featured a sturdy 34mm case crafted by François Borgel and housed a Swiss-made hand-wound movement with a two-day power reserve. The new Alpina Heritage Tropic-Proof stays remarkably true to its predecessor, retaining the same 34mm case diameter and a slim 9.25mm thickness.
The 30m water-resistant three-piece stainless steel case is topped with a glass-box sapphire crystal, blending vintage aesthetics with modern durability, while the solid caseback is adorned with stylized engravings of the Heritage collection.
Available in two dial variants – shiny white or black – the watch maintains an elegant simplicity. A minutes track encircles the dial, marked by beige luminous dots at five-minute intervals. Applied silver-coloured, faceted hour markers point inward, with double indices at cardinal positions. The polished hour and minute hands are filled with beige lume, while the sleek, needle-shaped central seconds hand features a polished finish without lume. The historical Alpina logo and model name sit above the centre, and with no date window, the dial remains clean and true to its simple, vintage-inspired design.
The new Alpina Heritage Tropic-Proof is powered by a hand-wound movement (Peseux base), has an operating frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour, and provides 42 hours of autonomy. The watch is worn on a beige Alcantara strap with tone-on-tone stitching, closed with a pin buckle. The price is CHF 1,795.

That works!
simple and classy
I dig it!
It would have been better if they remove the “tropic proof” wording on the dial. If they really need to add the wording engrave it at the back of the watch.
