The Albishorn Type X-Graph, A Transparent Prototype Before the Type 20

Albishorn continues its Imaginary Vintage series with a translucent monopusher chronograph conceived as a 1948 predecessor to the Type 20.

Following the Maxigraph, the Marinagraph, the Thundergraph, the original Type 10 Chronograph and the later cream-dial Type 10 Officer, the young Albishorn brand returns to its fictional military aviation universe with the new Type X-Graph. Once again, founder Sébastien Chaulmontet and designer Fabien Collioud explore the idea of a watch that never existed but could have. This new model imagines a prototype pilot’s chronograph developed in 1948, years before the famous Type 20 watches were produced for the French military.

The Type X-Graph remains faithful to the unusual construction introduced by the Type 10 collection, while adding a new visual attraction. Inspired by early experiments with transparent materials such as Plexiglas and Lucite in the 1930s and 1940s, the watch features a translucent polycarbonate dial that reproduces the look of a traditional metal dial while partially revealing the movement beneath.

The stainless steel case measures 39mm in diameter, 47.7mm lug-to-lug and 12mm thick, including the box sapphire crystal (11mm without). Satin-brushed surfaces contrast with polished bevels; the overall shape retains the utilitarian, instrument-like feel of military chronographs. The bidirectional bezel in gunmetal PVD-coated steel, slightly oversized at 41.7mm, is engraved with a 60-minute scale filled with lacquer and Super-LumiNova.

The winding crown in stainless steel and positioned at 10:30 sits beside a large red anodised aluminium monopusher integrated into the left side of the case. Activated with the thumb, it controls the chronograph’s start, stop, and reset functions, giving the watch a genuinely different feel on the wrist. Water resistance is 100m.

The dial is unquestionably interesting. Depending on the light, its fumé anthracite surface, which retains the same granular texture as the metal dial models, shifts from nearly opaque black to lighter smoky grey tones, gradually revealing the skeletonised (dial-side only) movement. The effect changes continuously, with the movement blending into the dial in an almost camouflage-like way. Legibility remains excellent thanks to large luminous Arabic numerals and white-painted hands filled with Super-LumiNova.

The dashboard-inspired Type 10 layout remains. Instead of the frequent 3-and-9 o’clock positions for the subdials, the running seconds and 30-minute counter are relocated to 4:30 and 7:30, respectively. The Albishorn’s patented chronograph operating indicator is at 12 o’clock and shows black, red, or white depending on whether the chronograph is reset, running, or stopped.

The Albishorn Type X-Graph is powered by the proprietary hand-wound calibre ALB04 M (a reworked Sellita SW510M Mp, itself based on a 7750 architecture), a COSC-certified monopusher chronograph movement with a skeletonised dial side. Running at 28,800 vibrations/hour and offering a comfortable 65-hour power reserve, the movement has been specifically developed to remain slim at 5.7mm.

The Albishorn Type X-Graph is offered with black and taupe leather straps; the steel bracelet is optional. Limited to 99 pieces produced over three years; the watch will be sold online from May 29, 2026, priced at CHF 4,250 on straps or CHF 4,700 on a steel bracelet, excluding taxes.
