The New Louis Erard Regulator Esprit Flinqué
Inspired by the art of flinqué enamel, the Regulator lends its three separate axes to a new layered composition decorated with beautiful fluted patterns highlighted in blue or grey.
When Manuel Emch took the reins at Louis Erard, he set out to prove that métiers d’art and creative collaborations are not the exclusive domain of high-end brands. Now a vibrant hub of creativity, Louis Erard has partnered with independent watchmakers and artists to produce original content. Consolidating Emch’s mission to democratise and reinterpret traditional artisanal decorative techniques in a more contemporary key, the new Regulators feature gorgeous dials inspired by the art of flinqué enamel.
Louis Erard’s Regulator is the designated model for the latest transformation. Thanks to its three separate axes corresponding to the separate hours, minutes and seconds indications, the Regulator is one of the most frequently selected references for collaborations and artistic makeovers, including a recent collaboration with our friends at Worn & Wound with a blue flinqué enamel-inspired dial. Three years in the making, the blue Louis Erard Regulator for Worn & Wound is back, accompanied by a new grey proposal.
Reinterpreting the Regulator layout, the Esprit Flinqué comprises three distinct layers. The fluted base layer hosts two skeletonised sub-dials on a vertical axis with hours at noon and seconds at 6 o’clock. The first-ever skeletonised elements to appear on a Louis Erard watch, the sub-dials revolve underneath the larger top counter, indicating the minutes. Two pointers at either end of the frame surrounding the minutes disc indicate the hours and seconds, while the minutes rely on a signature Louis Erard fir-tree hand. The minutes are picked out in crisp white sans-serif numerals. There is no trace of branding on the dial; the only inscription is the Swiss Made straddling the 30-minute indicator.
The new Esprit Flinqué models reference the refined artisanal technique of flinqué enamel, which combines an engraved metal base with translucent enamel. As the name suggests, they capture the “Spirit” of flinqué enamel by replicating its rich textures. Inspired by the engraved (often guilloché) geometric patterns associated with flinqué enamel, the dial base and minutes counter are decorated with an elegant, fluted pattern that fans out like sun rays from the central axis. The textured, three-dimensional fluting has a light blue or light grey colour on the lowest layer and a more intense shade – deep cobalt blue or dark grey – on the lacquered minutes counter above. As you can imagine, the fluted ridges capture the light, producing shadows and reflections.
The 39mm polished three-part stainless steel case has a thickness of 12.82mm and a lug-to-lug of 45.9mm. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides, and the movement is visible through the transparent crystal caseback. Powering the watch is a Swiss-made élaboré-grade Sellita SW266-1 movement with manual winding, a rotor with a black-lacquered LE logo, a frequency of 28,800vph, and a somewhat limited power reserve of 38 hours.
The blue dial version is paired with a grained beige calfskin strap, while the grey is fitted with a grey grained calfskin strap, both with polished steel pin buckles and quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes.
The new Esprit Flinqué models are limited editions of 99 pieces in each colour and retail for CHF 3,990 (excl.tax). More information at louiserard.com.
