The original Jui came out last year as a collaboration between Hong Kong-based Watch Ho & Co(mmunity) and microbrand Selten, and it did not stay under the radar for long. It was one of those watches that quietly hit the sweet spot, with a detailed dial and a strong concept at a price that felt easy to justify. Much of that came down to the dial itself, combining mother-of-pearl with a guilloché-style “mountain” pattern, giving it more detail than you would normally expect at this level. It also clicked with collectors, not just for how it looked, but for the idea of collectors coming together. Now, the project is back with the Jui Bauhinia.

The overall concept stays the same, but this time it looks quite different as the mood has clearly shifted. Instead of the more restrained tones of the first model, this version comes in light pink and light purple, inspired by the Bauhinia flower, the symbol seen on Hong Kong’s flag. The steel case is still a compact 39mm and just under 10mm thick with 20mm lug width, but most of the change is on the dial, with the “mountain” pattern from the original Jui still in place.

The base is still mother-of-pearl, but this time it carries soft pink or purple tones that shift depending on the light. It doesn’t stay one colour for long, moving between pale pastels and slightly richer shades, with the natural white of the mother-of-pearl still coming through in places. It gives the watch a brighter and softer look compared to the darker first edition.

The “mountain” pattern is cut into the dial using CNC machining, so the lines appear sharp and even. At certain angles, hints of green and blue come through as well, adding another layer to the dial. There is a lot of detail, and it is really the dial of the Jui Bauhinia that does much of the talking here. Yet it still feels balanced, which is what made the first Jui work.

A few smaller details bring the watch together. The skeletonised sword hands are heat-treated in purple and blue, picking up on the colours of the dial. A small marker at 2 o’clock points to this being a second edition, while the exhibition caseback reveals the Miyota 9039 automatic movement, running at 4Hz with a power reserve of around 42 hours, along with a custom rotor made for this watch.

The 316L steel case is water resistant up to 50 metres, and the Jui Bauhinia is paired with an FKM sailcloth-style strap that fits the slightly more casual look of this edition. Limited to 200 pieces per colour, the Jui Bauhinia is priced at USD 1,250. For more information, please visit www.seltenwatch.com.
