Blue Panda And Integrated Rubber Straps… Tissot Enlarges The PRX Collection Again

The integrated, easy-exchange rubber straps finally reach the PRX collection.

The PRX Collection, Tissot’s take on the 1970s-inspired sporty-chic watch with an integrated bracelet, seems to be a never-ending story. Last week, we broke the news about the imminent launch of a highly anticipated version, the Ice Blue edition of the Powermatic 80 – a colour first seen on the 35mm quartz version. But there’s more… The Ice Blue PRX was only one of the new models released for this season, and Tissot has more under its sleeve. And that includes the long-awaited rubber strap, which will finally make the quick-change device useful. And there’s a new, rather appealing chrono too.

The New Silver-Blue Panda PRX Chronograph

First, and following the two inaugural editions released last year, Tissot adds a new colour scheme to its big and bold Valjoux-powered PRX Chronograph. The first two models had vertically brushed dials in blue with silver counters or silver with black counters and gold accents. Now, the brand adds a sportier touch with a new silver dial that retains the vertically brushed surface but gets rid of the golden elements and replaces the black counters with dark blue ones. Colder and more in line with the sporty vocation of this watch, it seems to be the right model in the collection.

As a reminder, the Tissot PRX Chronograph Valjoux is the largest and more high-end model in the collection. Its case retains the overall design of the more compact time-and-date Powermatic edition, but it’s now 42mm in diameter and 14.5mm in height. Rectangular pushers found their way on the right side, but other than the increased dimensions, specs are identical to the classic Powermatic editions. The Panda-style dial heightens the contrast and offers a pleasant visual balance with a 3-6-9 layout (and date at 4:30). Released on an integrated steel bracelet (with quick-change device), it’s powered by an upgraded Valjoux movement (calibre A05 H31) that provides a solid 60h power reserve.

This new Blue Panda edition of the Tissot PRX Chronograph Valjoux (ref. T137.427.11.011.01) will soon be available as part of the permanent collection. The price remains the same as the two other models, retailing for EUR 1,995.

Quick facts: 42mm steel case – sapphire crystal and see-through caseback – 100m water-resistant – silver brushed dial with lume and blue counters – calibre A05 H31, automatic, 4Hz frequency, 60h power reserve (base 7753) – integrated steel bracelet with triple-folding clasp

The Long-Awaited Rubber Straps for the PRX Powermatic 80

First, the basics. Don’t expect evolutions on the watch itself. We’re still talking about the same PRX Powermatic 80 launched in 2021, in black or blue – and later in green and ice blue. Dimensions, specifications and movement are all identical, as are the dials. What matters is the addition of new straps. Although the watch was, from the very beginning, equipped with a quick-release system on its steel bracelet, it took Tissot some time to finally provide the PRX collection with additional straps. Recently, the brand presented black and blue leather straps for the PRX – calfskin leather with an embossed alligator pattern – which was certainly nice but not exactly what watch enthusiasts were hoping for… The crowd wanted rubber straps (and aftermarket options were already out…)

But now, the PRX will make full use of its quick-change system as Tissot (finally) introduces rubber straps to the collection. Presented first for the Black and Blue editions of the PRX Powermatic 80, the black strap has a waffle-like pattern that creates continuity with the dial. It is closed by a steel pin buckle. And if Tissot doesn’t comment on the topic yet, there’s no doubt that the strap will be available separately as an accessory to be added to your already beloved PRX model.

The two editions of the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 on rubber strap (ref. T137.407.17.041.00 in blue and ref. T137.407.17.051.00 in black) will soon be available and are priced at EUR 725. Note that the rubber strap will also fit the 40mm quartz models.

Quick facts: 40mm steel case – sapphire crystal and see-through caseback – 100m water-resistant – black or blue dial with waffle pattern and lume – calibre Powermatic 80, automatic, 3Hz, 80h power reserve, anti-magnetic Nivachron hairspring (base ETA 2824) – integrated black rubber strap with waffle pattern and steel pin buckle

  1. 37 or 38 mm would be perfect. I can gurantee that the 80-hour movement fits perfectly. In fact, it fits into the Hamilton Pilot Pioneer, which is a tiny marvel.
