This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Bulgari Boutique in the United States. And although that might seem insignificant to some, Bulgari has taken the occasion to present a tantalising limited edition based on one of its most iconic watches: the Octo Finissimo Automatic. This horological sculpture, with its mix of sharp, straight lines and a round bezel, hardly needs introducing. However, to offer something a bit different, this US-only Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Limited Edition is made of yellow gold, as if it were touched by King Midas himself.
Using the very familiar Octo Finissimo design, this limited edition measures 40mm in diameter and just 6.40mm in height. The construction of the full yellow gold case actually relies on the Octo Finissimo S, with beefed-up water-resistance (100m vs 50m for the non-S) thanks to the slightly redesigned case and the inclusion of a screw-down crown. The yellow gold crown has a black ceramic insert. The finishing of the case is again a mix of brushing in various directions and polished sections.
A signature styling element of the Octo Finissimo is the octagonal dial under the circular sapphire crystal. The dial for the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic is executed in a rich brown tone with a sunray-brushed finish. It’s not something new, but it contrasts nicely against the yellow gold exterior. Applied yellow gold-coloured indices and hands display the time. As always, the small seconds sub-dial is positioned between 6 and 9 o’clock.
From a technical perspective, nothing has changed. Underneath the dial and visible through the sapphire caseback, the calibre BVL 138 is still ticking away diligently. This movement is driven by a platinum micro-rotor and can deliver up to 60 hours of power reserve. At 2.23mm in height, it is justifiably an ultra-thin movement, part of the resounding success of the Octo Finissimo range.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic in yellow gold is a US-exclusive launch and is limited to just 50 pieces to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first US-based Bulgari boutique. It comes on the well-known and beloved integrated bracelet with triple-blade folding clasp, this time in yellow gold, of course. It’s price is slightly higher than the rose gold version and retails for EUR 46,000 (1,000 euros more to be precise). So the difference in price comes down to exclusivity only.
