“Kollokium is not a brand. As pretentious and cliché as that sounds, it’s true.” So, how could we define Kollokium? It’s a collaborative project between three friends, all fairly established names within the watch industry: Manuel Emch, Barth Nussbaumer, and Amr Sindi (The Horophile). Rethinking the way to approach watchmaking, and especially branding, Kollokium frees itself and has true creativity: die-cast brutalist cases, architectural dials playing with depth and lume, deliberately unfinished components… Following the Projekt 01 series, the trio released in 2025 the Projekt 02, first as a “Friends, Family, Fools & Flippers” (FFF&F) launch edition. Projekt 02 Variant B makes its mark as the first publicly available edition, taking the topographical design to new heights (and depths).

On the principle, excluding the dial, the Projekt 02 of Kollokium shares the same overall neobrutalist inspiration as the Projekt 01 series, and most of its external and mechanical components. What sets this second opus apart is the dial. While Projekt 01 was all about hand-appliying 468 steel pins in six varying widths and heights, Projekt 02 has a dial focused on topographical design with a vertical gradient layout in a shift of grey to black across 9 layers, composed of no fewer than 67 parts. No longer in its freshman phase, after 3 years of production (and 6 years of conception), Projekt 02 proved that Kollokium is not bound by a single idea.

Staying true to Kollokium’s neubrutalist approach, the case is made of die-cast 316L steel, chosen for its forms and textures that are impractical with traditional milling methods. It’s a single visible unit: no separate bezel or caseback, integrated triangular lugs, a valve-style crown, and the full project designation “K,P–n°02” in relief on the flank. Dimensions are compact: 39.5mm diameter; 5.90mm without crystal, 12.40mm with a tall box sapphire. Water-resistance is 50m.

Variant B is the direct descendant of the FFF&F variant of the Kollokium Projekt 02, but also of the Projekt 01 Variant E. The dial retains what makes the FFF&F version special, meaning a flat, two-dimensional image transfigured into a true topographical dial, consisting of 67 stacked dial plates. Each is painted by hand with a lacquer infused with Super-LumiNova. But Variant B goes even further, as each level is painted in a slightly different tone. The highest peaks os the dial, representing the twelve hour markers, are hand-painted in a light grey colour, then each successive lower layer gets darker. The 67 plates are then vertically stacked and pegged on top of each other, one at a time. It takes around 6 hours to assemble a single dial.

Inside the new Kollokium Projekt 02 Variant B is the tried-and-tested La Joux-Perret G101, an automatic engine found in all models of the brand and known for its solid 68-hour power reserve. The watch comes equipped with an anthracite elastic textile single-piece strap with “hook” buckle in die-cast steel.

Available in a limited run of 299 pieces, available from the brand’s website, the Kollokium Projekt 02 Variant B is priced at CHF 3,666.66 (excl. VAT). Note that a prototype has been consigned with online auction house Marteau & Co, with the entirety of the proceeds from the sale donated to the Musée International d’Horlogerie (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
