The Stylish and Truly Affordable Templum Tropolis

A stylish collection from a new French microbrand with guilloché bezels and sandwich dials hits Kickstarter with a truly affordable price.

French founder Alexandre Greze has just launched Templum, a new microbrand that goes a bit beyond the norm with the inaugural collection, Tropolis. The trio of watches feature a stylish guilloché bezel and sandwich dials in three colours, bringing a modern and sophisticated vibe to the wrist that won’t break the bank. Headquartered in Paris, Templum assembles all watches in France and fits them with French-made leather straps, while a proven Miyota automatic ticks inside. Although we’re not breaking new ground here, the three watches seem well executed and punch above their weight.

The 316L brushed stainless steel case is on the smaller side at 37mm in diameter and 11.2mm in height (44mm lug-to-lug), but still very wearable for many wrists. For the price, there are impressive features like an AR sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and 200 metres of water resistance, and a nicely finished guilloché bezel with a clous de Paris style. The caseback is solid, which is to be expected for a 200-metre piece at this price, and a tan or grey leather and black rubber strap with quick-release levers comes standard.

The dial of the Templum Tropolis comes in three colours – black, blue and dune (off-white) – and has a sandwich design with Super-LumiNova underneath the cutout circular indices. Arabic numerals at 12, 3 and 9 o’clock are printed with matching lume, while a date window at 6 o’clock blends in well with the surrounding hollow indices. A detailed track with Arabic numerals counting from 05 to 60 spans the perimeter, while an angled flange has circular marks every five minutes. Open-worked hour and minute hands have lume inserts, while the seconds hand has an aperture that perfectly frames the date window and round indices as it sweeps by.

Powering the Templum Tropolis is a Miyota 9015 automatic with 24 jewels, a beat rate of 28,800vph (4Hz) and a power reserve of 42 hours. Functions include central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and date. Introduced in 2009, it’s a reliable Japanese workhorse with an accuracy rating of -10/+30 seconds per day.

The Templum Tropolis models are live on Kickstarter with a preorder price of EUR 375 (before VAT) with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Not bad for a piece with such attention to detail and a 200-metre depth rating. For more information, please visit Templum’s website and the Kickstarter page for preorders.
