This new Carrera chronograph combines two important Arabic features in a special limited edition.

TAG Heuer combines two things into a single Carrera launched during Dubai Watch Week. On the one hand, we have Arabic hour numerals, and on the other, we have a luscious emerald green dial. The colour green is highly symbolic in Islamic culture; green represents hope, harmony and prosperity. It has been a very “on-trend” colour and one that doesn’t show signs of letting up anytime soon. Regardless of what you think of the trend, there’s no denying that a well-made green dial can look very good. Let’s take a look at the new TAG Heuer Carrera Middle East Limited Edition.

The Carrera by TAG Heuer needs little introduction. Its roots can be traced back to 1953 when Heuer (long before becoming TAG Heuer) produced the 404 series of watches. This chronograph watch was dedicated to the Carrera Panamericana endurance race and evolved into what we now know as the Carrera. First introduced in 1963, the Carrera remains one of the oldest named collections in TAG Heuer’s long and rich history.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Middle East Limited Edition relies on the signature Carrera style. From the outside, there’s nothing new to discover. It has a 42mm wide stainless steel case with angular lugs, a relatively thin bezel and robust piston-style pushers. A sapphire crystal covers the dial and movement.

Speaking of the dial, this TAG Heuer Carrera Middle East Limited Edition comes in sumptuous emerald green. It is not the first time TAG Heuer uses green on the Carrera, as it already presented something similar on the Carrera Green Special Edition earlier this year. The two colours are very closely matched but differ slightly. As you can see in the image in the sunlight (just above), the sunray-brushed dial catches the light very nicely.

To further set it apart, TAG Heuer has applied Arabic hour numerals around the dial, complemented by an Arabic date wheel. The chronograph sub-counters (30-minutes at 3 o’clock, 12-hours at 9 o’clock) have a concentric pattern with white scales on a sloped minutes ring. The central hour and minutes hands feature a Super-LumiNova insert, the only luminous element on the dial. Positioned at 6 o’clock and featuring the date window, you’ll find the small seconds indication.

Revealed by the sapphire crystal caseback is the calibre Heuer 02 movement. This in-house developed, integrated automatic chronograph movement uses a column wheel and vertical clutch. The calibre Heuer 02 is usually reserved for the more high-end chronograph watches in the brand’s portfolio. It is topped by a green rotor, tying in with the dial. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and has a power reserve of 80 hours once fully wound.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Middle East Limited Edition is available in a run of 150 pieces and comes on a stainless steel bracelet with H-shaped links and a folding clasp. An additional brown leather strap is supplied with the watch. It retails for CHF 5,800.

  1. No such thing as Overpriced, its either you can afford it or not. Don’t make comments like this, make people think you’re the latter.
