The New TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Purple Editions
With or without tourbillon, surfing on the trend for purple dials.
The TAG Heuer Carrera requires little to no introduction anymore. With its name inspired by the perilous Carrera Panamericana race, the model became one of the most iconic racing-inspired watches. Since its introduction in 1963, its design has evolved in many directions. Presented in 2023, marking the 60th anniversary of the collection, the handsome Carrera Glassbox was an instant hit. This modern take on the concept retains the angular lugs and clean lines of the classic Carrera. But it distinguishes itself with a prominently domed sapphire crystal and a bezel-less design. Multiple variations have been released since it was first launched. And on the occasion of the LVMH Watch Week 2025, we get two new models with gradient purple dials, bringing a distinctive, elegant flair to the collection.
Expanding the colour palette of the Carrera Glassbox series, these two new Carreras follow the introduction of a purple version of the Monaco chronograph in 2022. The first model is an iteration of the Carrera Glassbox chronograph. It retains the design of its predecessors, meaning a compact 39mm steel case with angular lugs, pump-style pushers, a prominently domed sapphire crystal and no bezel. The novelty is its sunray-brushed gradient dial transitioning from deep black at the edges to purple at the centre. Its recessed black chronograph counters feature a concentric pattern. Rhodium-plated markers and white markings provide contrast and clarity, and the date is displayed at 6 o’clock.
The watch is powered by the automatic calibre TH20-00, an updated Heuer 02 movement. This modern chronograph is an integrated design with a column-wheel and vertical clutch. It ticks at 28,800 vibrations/hour and delivers a robust 80-hour power reserve. Its finishing and openworked rotor can be admired through the exhibition caseback.
Modelled along the same lines, the second watch is a purple dial version of the Carrera Glassbox Tourbillon chronograph. Its steel case is slightly larger at 42mm. Its movement is still the modern, in-house automatic calibre TH20-09. Based on the Heuer 02 chronograph, it features its tourbillon regulator dial side at 6 o’clock. It beats at 28,800 vibrations/hour, and it delivers a 65-hour power reserve.
Both models are presented on a black rally-style perforated calfskin strap with a purple lining on its reverse side. They are secured to the wrist by a double-folding safety clasp. Available from January 2025, the chronograph will retail for CHF 6,500 and the chronograph tourbillon for CHF 34,000.
